Move to/register in a county that does not require yearly inspection.

Or if you're like me your evo's never been inspected since the car left the lot. I could care less. And so do most cops.

Edit* The way i see it. If i get pulled over, it won't be for a minor offense such as an inspection ticket. So they'll either A: cut me a break and rip me off the inspection instead of a moving violation. B: rip me off my offense and let me go on inspection or C: if he's a dick all the above. However 99.9999% of the time if you know how to talk to a cop you'll get a break.

^^^I would worry about them impounding depending on how long I've gone without inspection. I guess I'm just used to cops being über-dicks.

And that's really the bottom line. Lots of people will say they know a guy, or heard of, or whatever, but there's no LEGAL way to drive a car that wasn't originally sold here on the street.

Unless Kaizo decides to get into the Evo business, you could try building the car out of a Mirage and two half cut Evos.

I did a little research and this is what I came up with :

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...t01122006.html

This is a list of RI's (Registered Importers) along with rules and regulations provided by NHTSA and DOT. Along with a RI you're going to need arrange the shipping from Japan, along with a Japanese title, English translation of the Japanese title, De registration form. Then your car will have to go through customs, not too sure on how this works or how difficult it is. But if people can get R-34's registered in the states why not right?!?

Not gonna happen man. If you searched the NHTSA site well enough you would've seen the list of cars that are able to import to the states through these "RI's", no where on it is the Evo. So if you try to ship an Evo it WILL get stuck at customs and there is nothing you or a RI can do.

The only true way one could ever get an Evo to the states is to either register it as a race car, which has already been said or ship it as parts and re-assemble it here. When I say parts the car has to shipped as a stripped down chassis. IE no motor, drivetrain, interior ect. Basically as if its ready to paint. All the other parts have to be shipped separately. Once the chassis and parts are in your possession you have to rebuild the car(just the thought of that makes my head hurt).

Once the car has been reassembled it has to driven down to your local DMV where you will register it as a kit or grey market import. They will slap it with a new vin and you are set. Now this only makes it STATE legal. Will the feds mess with you? Probably not unless you plan on doing something really stupid with the car.

I used to own an Evo VI and spent many, many months researching and talking to various people and they all spoke of some form of what I just wrote about. In the end the cons just outweighed the pros for me. Most importantly just way too much money and work for a car. If you do pursue this make sure you have lots of patients and cash to back it up.

you can resister a evo 1-7 if you have some serious friends in the dmv. I asked my friends dad once about it he works in the dmv and he flat out told me no its not worth the hassle for it and yes it could be done if you have friends that are willing to do the paperwork for you. (saying it kind of shady with his voice) So that tells me unless its going to be a track car or show car to forget about it unless your gf works witha dads that willing to do it for a large fee.

I live in Northern Jersey, and there's a few Evo VII's on the surrounding Craigslist sites and they're supposedly street legal. If you want, I'll search for and send you the links to the ads.

No offense but here in Boston you pay almost any guy that works in the inspection sticker 100 bucks and they will pass your car easy.
