Even an EVO with low miles could have been abused. One of the reasons why I decided to buy one I knew had been built for monster power but put back to stock.....at least I know the history and its local.
That's true. There are dealerships with 100 mile X's going for $28 while 20K miles IX's are selling for $26.
Take a look at the for sale section here, people are asking ridiculous amounts for X's when they are actually worth less. I have no idea why IX's have held their value so well.

Car is 3 years old.
Its normal to price to go down.
Also economy is hitting people hard.
You see any other car not depreciate after 3 years?(except for rare sports cars)
I was looking into i335, g35x, and is250 when i got my evo9
I paid 28k for new
i335 was 45k
g35x was 38k
is250 awd was 39k
Now they cost around
i335 = 25-30k
g35x= 20-25k
is250 = 20-25k
my evo was 28k = now worth around 20-23k
Didnt depreciate too much if you compare with other cars.

Not to be a dick or anything. But before you go ripping his *** apart. Realize this. Some of us do DRIVE our cars. For the short time my evo was on the road i put nearly 12k miles in 3 months. You do the math. I don't know the guy personally or anything. But it could very well be true.
Stoped at a
dealer to see if they had an X in. They didn't and told me they were hard to get. I LOLed at him and told him to check ebay. Did not ask much more but they said they want msrp. Glad i got my ix instead.

Yeah but what value does that hold for the average consumer?
I think it has more to do with people over pricing them upon putting the cars for sale.
Why on earth would I pay $26K for a 20k+ mile Evo? So it's depreciated only 4 grand in almost 4 years? I don't think so, it's just owners dictating the price more so then what the cars really worth.
We have VIII owners jumping on the bandwagon and pricing their cars beyond belief.
You know what really makes me laugh are all these lame people who some how fabricate excuse after excuse as to why Evo's are unacceptable daily drivers. They sit in their garages all day because to them the car is some how an exotic. How are you going to reserve a $30K Japanese Econobox Sedan to garage queen duty?
To those of you who don't drive your cars.

Say what you want, but my 03 looks brand new, and I have 3 more payments. My only regret is semi-daily driving it for the first 3 years.
It's like a Primo 1G or 2G eclipse, they still bring a pretty reasonable price.
I think it's wrong to look at these like an everyday econo box. These are very special cars. I don't share the Japanese car inferiority complex that some guys have. The Evo falls into the Supra, Skyline, and RX-7 category. True the price isn't as good right now. but give it a few years, when you can't pick up some fanboys economic mistake for a low price. A good, clean, well kept Evo will always be worth a premium. I'm not worried. I'd buy this thing all over again, only I'd go about the mods a little differently.
Knowing what I know now, I would have bought a daily beater the same week that I bought my Evo, and kept the miles even lower. I've driven a lot of other cars and this thing is very unique. I view it as a retort to the snobbish exotic car world. A guy of moddest means can run with a whole lot of other more expensive cars.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, the Evo is an exotic. I once thought my dream car was an E type Jag. I wouldn't trade my Evo for one. I'd own both if I was rich, but only the Evo since I'm not.
You don't realize how special this car is. Poor man's exotic, possibly, but that makes it all the more special when I out run a BMW, Lambo, Maserati, Benz, or Porsch, and especially a Vette or Vipper, Gawwd that's fun.

I'll keep polishing and garaging my 03, and others can let the sun fade and salt or mag chloride ruin theirs.
A dirty, spent, dull Evo just doesn't look as good as one that shines. But then, no car does.
But, to each his own
(My hat's off to the guys who daily drive theirs and they STILL look great.)

I put 88k on my Type R I bought with 50 miles on it in 2 years. I drove to Toronto a few times....that'll do it.
I plan on driving my EVO as least as possible....because I discovered that when I daily drive my toy...I loose the appreciation for it and end modding it to make it feel new again.
When you don't dd your favourite car you have a new found appreciation for it everytime you get in it.

Even with this economy, a decent relatively low mileage IX is going for around $20k. That's roughly 2/3 of it's new price which is pretty phenominal. My '06 Civic stickered at $18k and book value is currently around $10k, and it's just about the best resale value of any "normal" car out there. Consider yourselves VERY lucky they're still worth what they are.
