oops i guess i mis-read it .
The JDM evo 7 was not "considerably quicker" than the EVO 8. Check your facts before making such statements. When you compare the average of all the numbers, 1/4 mile ties, , published 0-60, etc...the cars are remarkebly close. Even a .4 second 0-60 time is not a significant advantage between two cars.

The DSM came out in 1990 (actually 1989.5).
The Evo came out in 1992, I think. The 4G63 has been in a lot of different cars.
Japanese design, American built. The Gallant VR-4 is a different story. Look at the build quality with that car. I would love to own a GVR-4, either a 91 or a 92, they are the poo.

You know, that one about "Let's do it just start a comotion....Put the body in motion.......put, put, put the body in motion." Or something like that.
Other than that, I have yet to see one US commercial or advertisement for the Evo.

The 1st gen had a 14b, which is a mitsu turbo, better head, blah blah blah. The Evo had a 16G, just a little larger than the 14b.
The 2nd gen 4G63 had a Garret turbo, which was pathetic and would lose strength at higher rpm/14 psi.
But, yeah, the basic design in the dsm'S 4g63 and the Evo 1 to Evo 3 4g63 are the same.

I have also heard you can drop an EVO I-III motor into a 2G with little, if any modification, whereas some work would have to be done to get one into a 1G. But, alas, in the end I guess it doesn't really matter. It's not worth the expense just to say you have a JDM motor in your DSM (Diamond Star Motors) when a 6-bolt botom, and worked 2G head are the best combo.

I can't find it now........
Oh, and DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors (Talon/Eclipse/Laser) which casr are often reffered to as T/E/L's on message boards.
