boost levels?
I just bought a evo 9 rs. ok i got that factory boost is 19 psi. but my car is running 14 on the dot. i can see the boost controler under the hood.so my question is do you need a fuel managment system to run less boost then factory i want to go back to the 19, but i,m not sure if i have to get it tuned. It would make sence the the guy that had the car before me did have a fuel management system do to the upgraded turbo. they said they detuned it to save gas, does that sound resonable. i got more questions but i'll ask those later

So wait. Back up.
If I'm reading this correctly, you just bought an Evo.
However, it came with some aftermarket parts and your Boost Gauge is telling you that you're running 14 PSI instead of 19 PSI?
Saving gas doesn't matter until you hit boost.
If you stay out of boost, you'll use the same amount of gas, regardless of high boost or not on the controller. (Just don't go above the "0" on your boost gauge.)
So the previous owner was a uninformed Evo owner.
I highly suggest that you get your Evo retuned. Don't know what the previous owner had done to it.

Stock 9 should run 18 psi, or thats what I read from my boost gauge out of my stock boosting IX. Why detuned?!!!?? You wanna save gas just drive differently like stay under vaccum if possible.

Max (stock) boost on a IX is factory spec'd at 20.3 PSI. I saw a max of ~1.4kg/cm2 tapering to ~1.1kg/cm2 on the stock gauge - ie. ~20-15.5 PSI.
Here's a pressure converter/calculator:

ok, just to add to the confusion. My boost gage peaks out about 16 on a mostly stock evo 9. I have a mechanical autometer gage though. It still pulls hard at the drags and runs good times though, so i dont think it is down on boost. could it just be a difference in gages or where they are hooked up?

I tested the boost today on my IX. I punched it on the way to work around noon time, close to 90 degree outside weather. It boosted up to 18psi. After work, was on the way to a local meet, outside aprox. 57-69 degree, it boosted up to 20psi most of time at 19psi.
BTW, I just got the brand new Defi Racer gauge and installed few days ago.
