a few weird questions about the evo

it looks liek someone is going to buy my civic so i should be rolling out an evo soon enough.
a couple strange things have been bothering me, i cant test drive this damn car. every place i go to they come in sold or they have the car burried inside the show room.
anyhow thats not the deal. i am getting this car test drive or not dammit.

my question is what RPM does the evo hold in 5th gear @ 80-85 MPH

may seem fast for some, but i live out in the sticks of michigan and posted limits are 70- and 80-85 is keeping up with traffic.
my civic runs at 4500 and its really horrible on gas mielage, just wondering how the evo would compare.

another one is how loud is it going down the road, again im not comparing this to a luxury car, just my civic- and the civic is extremly loud with the lowprofile tires it has almost no sound deadening meterial.

thanks in advance to my noobie questions

The Evo is quieter than a car with a modified exhaust. My last car was a Golf VR6 with an aftermarket muffler and my Evo is quieter than the VR6 was.

Gas mileage will be way worse in the Evo than in a Civic. Do a search on this site to find the thread about gas mileage.

I can answer the RPM question after I get home

Around 3500 RPMs @ 80 MPH, I think. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

ya 3500 rpm, but u can get either a safc or a ecu flash to help reduce gas consumption. evo runs very rich

The evo runs rich at high RPM when under high loads, like at WOT. At highway cruise you're not going to be on boost and the ECU should be in closed-loop operation, which means AFR will probably be right around stoich. That should yield fine gas mileage.

i kinda figured gas mielage would be worse.. it is 13 second qm compared to 15

but crusing at 4500 rpm is horrible on gas i think in anything.

DAMN for holding back the 6 speed. anyone have a cheap importer

Umm, it's 3500, not 4500. The 6th gear in the 6spd tranny isn't much taller than the 5th gear we have in ours.

the 4500 is refering to my current car.

i figured the 6 speed would have been simiular to what honda did with the S2000 and RSX-S with slight changes to 1st 3rd and tacked on 6th for overdrive. ima noobie!

At 80mph my 2000 Civic si was at about 4300-4500rpm and I was getting about 32 mpg trying to average 80mph. I got 25mpg doing the same with the Evo.

Your right about that. All I had on the si was I/E. It's still nice to get good mileage with a low to mid 13 second car.

personally i dont think the gas mileage is as bad as people put it out to be. just 2 days ago i drove from sf to davis and back comsuming about half a tank of gas. for those that arent in norcal, the trip is about 150 miles to and from. Considering that i was stuck in stop and go traffic for about an hour on the way back half a tank seems reason about. additionally i wasnt driving exactly slow being that i averaged about 95-100 mph. and yes the evo is actually very quiet. either that or the stiff suspension on the bumpy road made even more noisy lol.

So 25mpgs? On the highway? How about comfort? Ride? Back seat? Like the first poster, I can't get a test drive , kind of like Harley's a few years ago!

The Evo's incredibly comfortable on long trips. I went on a 1100 mile round trip each way and I couldn't have felt better in those Recaro's. One of my friends who owns a Vette commented to me on how my back seats were the most comfortable back seats he's ever sat in. There's more leg room back there than most other cars. Honestly if gas mileage was my concern, this isn't the exact car I'd be looking at.

i have to disagree bout the long trip thing IF you are driving.

w/ the side thigh bolster on the recaro + no cruise control = your left leg aching from being against the bolster

i'm 6' , 210lbs
