Looking for lower priced EVO or the best alternative.
Actually, the Lancer, SRT-4 and the WRX may seem cheaper but honestly speaking, the evo is one of the greatest deals in the market now. The car comes equipped with very expensive gear like the set of Brembo brakes, Recaro Seats, Momo steering wheel, 13:1 steering rack, front mount intercooler, Enkei Wheels, Advan A046 tires, independent rear suspension setup, strut bars, hollow camshafts, strengthened engine components etc. I just saw the aftermarket price for the brembo brake system on our stock evos going for about $3500. The Recaros go for about $1500. Basically, if you want to buy all these parts aftermarket for the Lancer, WRX or the SRT-4 to match the evo, you'll probably end up spending much more money than the price of the evo, which comes with everything. Don't forget, the evo has a nasty AWD equipped with some really nice limited slip differencials helping it out handle even the STi.
I agree with "909". The package deal on the Evo is outstanding. It's one of the major reasons I dumped my Audi S4 in favor of the Evo.
regarding price, I think if you bargain really hard and are willing to go out of your geographic area you should be able to find one. I've read in these forums of people picking up new Evos for $28K-$29K.
Personally I paid $29,999 (sunroof & GT wing, incl. delivery) and I don't feel I got raped since they gave me straight book for my Audi despite the fact that I had been rear ended to the tune of $1300 worth of damage. I ended up getting about $1500 less than if I had gone private sale. Like I said, I didn't get a major *** pounding.

evo180,
To answer your question, yes it is absolutely possible to get an Evo for under $28000 before tax and title. Mine was below $28000 with wing and roof. There are a few threads with details on prices paid on the board.
Best wishes,

You have numerous options. Above all, don't set your standards for anything less than the EVO!
1) Buy one new/used. Check autotrader.com. I've seen some for sale. One with only 3,800 miles being sold for $26K. I'm sure you could offer $25K and get the whole thing (and it has a sunroof and wing). But that's in Florida (yes, we do pay sales tax). I'm not sure where you are located, so you'll have to search in your area. But there are new/used ones out there and selling for a few grand less than new.
2) Wait a little longer and save up the extra money. Only problem with that is do you have transportation until then?
3) Go ahead and finance an extra $2000 to get one new. That's nothing! You can pay that off in a few months easy!
4) Find out the invoice price and decide whether you will pay $250-500 over....or pay under invoice (you may be able to do this when the '04's are available).

Does $26K for only 900 miles sound reasonable?

Alright, I may have found it.

Some of the info is messed up (it used to say automatic transmission), but I called Mercedes-Benz of Orlando and asked about it. Rally Red Evolution with 5600 miles on it, AWD and manual tranny obviously. The guy said it was in excellent condition, like new, and the price is only $24,399.
Can anyone see any problems with this? I'm still going to godown and checkthe thing out, and I know there's the possibility of abuse and/or incorrect break-in, but it's a great deal. It's 5 grand less than what I'd probably be paying for a new one and I doubt it was abused. Unless I'm mistaken, isn't a trade-in the only way a Mistu could get on a Benz lot? If the guy who owned this car went for a Mercedes instead, I don't think they would be a person to abuse it.
I don't dig the color, but that's the least of my problems. Should I go for it?

Pay no attention to the previous posts. In the Orlando area alone I know for a fact you can get out the door at 28K. Call Fountain Mitsu (that's where I bought mine at 32K), at last check they had 9 on the lot and were giving them away.
If you'd rather go new, my local dealership, Don Carlton Mitsubishi (in Tulsa, OK) has a brand spankin' new Rally red Evo w/ CF Spoiler, but no sunroof with a $28,300 no-haggle price hanging from the rearview mirror. (about 1700 below MSRP) I bet you can haggle away the last $300. There are also 5 others on the lot that can probably be had for similar deals (the red one was the one on the showroom floor, so they had it adverstised.)
As I recall, they also have:
Red - Sunroof, small wing
Silver - CF Spoiler, Sunroof
2 Black - 1 with Small wing, Sunroof, tint; 1 with CF Spoiler, Sunroof
White - SR, CF
It's probably worth going new so you can break it in yourself...
