I doubt it was abused. Should I go for it?

get a gsx basically a 2 door evo. i was running over 300 whp in mine with stock internals, of course not much else was. you can easially pick up a nice 99 with under 70,000 miles for 16 or less, and probablly with quite a few mods. i know cause i did. hks tt, apex-i s-afc and intercooler w/ icp. S20g turbo, ect... running high 12's to low 13's

If you dont mind you could get a used one. I brought mine for 27K flat with 4400 on the clock. Depends on your pocket. I still have the new car smell. Warranty and all still in place. I love the car.

I would say get what you can REALLY afford. Do you have any money in the bank? Is the evo going to tap all your funds? What if you get canned at work, will you still be okay? I am not trying to be a *** but now is the time to make sure you have all you ducks in a row and I would say a lot of people by the MOST car they can and if they get a flat they are screwed, or the $60.00 oil change is too much, or if the clutch goes it they are doomed. Just plan ahead, I always make sure if something happens I have the $$$$ to cover it, helps reduce a lot of stress.

I agree with f86sabre, go find a GSX, 4wd, turbo 5 speed and you're aftermarket is taken care of. The affordability of the older Eclipses is getting much better, and they are FAST when modded properly, not to mention still a GREAT looking car with a sport feel to it. Or you can get a Neon SRT4, but that is still a Neon. I think the MazdaSpeed Protege is also a good choice. Good luck, just make life easy and affordable for yourself and have fun with it!

I'm going to be at less than $10k when it's rolling down the road. In fact, I bought a new WRX wagon and used the Evo-to-WRX price difference to justify the GSX build. It might not be as sexy or fast as the Evo, my GSX will have a similar drivetrain and power-level, so I should be competitive. Plus, no one is looking at the old "grandma 4-door" (with AWD and indy suspension and disks in all the corners), so it can get away with a lot.
The Evo is a super car (I know you guys know that), but it's not everything. Plus, if you can "just barely" afford the Evo, then all the repairs and parts will really get you at some point. So, there's my two cents.

Also, check eBay, there are tons of new Evos on there, you might get lucky and score a cheap one with no reserve.
If you want used ones, you should check the For Sale forum.
