Buying used 05...2 brands of tires

There's a local RR 05 VIII that I was looking at, pretty much the only local evo at a dealer. It has 57xxx miles and some minor mods(cone filter, intercooler pipes, cat back). I didn't hear any death whine like I have on some evo's I've looked at. But I'm concerned because it has toyo's on the back and some off brand tires on the front.

The car drives nicely and I really want to get an evo(currently driving a Cobalt SS/TC) but the different tires and the relatively high mileage are making me hesistate. They want 22k for it, but I think if they would take 19k I would do it.

Basically what I'm asking is, are 2 different types of tires that big of a deal? Or should I pass on this evo?

So what. as long as they are the same size, dont worry about it right away. Just put all 4 like tires on it when it is time for that.

Mileage could be a set back but I know plenty of people on this board have more than that.

even 19k is a lot...even if the tires are the same size that doesn't mean they are actually the same size...tires run different

I'd look else where

Has the car had the timing belt done? If not I would try to get them to lower price...

+1 Also even if they are the same size, doesn't mean they get the same amount of grip. There's too many variables, I'd stay away. Especially for that price and mileage.

Yeah, I kinda figured I should look elsewhere, but shopping for evo's is so time consuming, and this one showed up about a mile from where I live.

Agreed but I believe it would be fine for a bit.

As for price, hard to tell without more info.

Just pass on it. Buy a stock one...

Still want that bumper chaotichoax?

how can 2 different sized tires cause your transfer case to blow up, if at every autocross event I see several evos with 10" wide wheels in the front and 9" in the rear? or are they doomed to have issues?

I think he's saying two different tires per axle. As in left front and right front are not the same tire brand.

??? even if someone put the same size tire on a 10" wide wheel and a 9" wide wheel the contact patch would be different because the tire would be stretched/squeezed on one of the wheels. However I have noticed evos running 285 to 295 in the front and 275 in the rear. I am new to evos so can you please explain your statement or provide a link with more info.

If you have the same size rims, Let's say 18in. for argument sake. IF you put a 295/40/18 in the front and a 275/40/18 in the rear, the overall height of the tires willbe different causing the front tires to rotate faster than the rear. In turn causing the Tcase to fail.

Hope this helps.
