Replacement/Additional Key Question

I was looking on Ebay to have an additional key grooved. Since I found my second pair of keys I am making a 3rd copy. I noticed there were two flavors that are currently listed. I am not sure if these are identical keys or not. I was hoping someone would know.

One is $14.00 and doesn't have the shiny Mitsu logo on the molded plastic. The other is $55.00 and has the same shiny Mitsu logo that my original keys have.

I am thinking one of these might be oem whereas the cheaper is an aftermarket oem compatible key. I would assume both would work but what is the difference? I will post links if necessary.

Maybe the seller for $55.00 is trying to make some idiot cash and the keys are the same minus the logo.

Edit- I am going to wing it with the cheaper key. I'll post the results.

I just got a PM about this and I figured I should follow up on this as promised.... I did purchase two keys from Ebay (the cheaper ones) and had no problems programming. I had a local small locksmith cut the keys for about $5-10 per key without guarantee on the cut.

If you have two sets and not a third, you might want to consider making a third set NOW!

dont our cars have immobilizer chips installed in our keys? the cheaper one prolly dont have that. and that is prolly the reason why the other one cost more money.

i inquired about this. the local dealer is charging me 70+ CAD for an extra key with the chip in it.

He said they had no problem programming, so they must have had a chip in them...

Any chance of getting at least a brief overview of what had to be done to get it kosher with the car?

my experience:
i bought a key on eBay recently, not a factory key, some cheaper version, but one with the chip inside, and had a local locksmith program it. works 100%

total cost was $60. $15 for key, $45 to cut it and program it (the locksmith was able to do it even though i only had one original oem key, not both)

total cost at the dealer would have been $200. ~$50 for key, ~$150 to cut and program (if u have both originals, its cheaper and easier, But if only 1 oem key, dealer charges 1.5hours of labor for programming)

+1 on this, I only have one key as well and would definitely find the link to this very useful. I don't want that day to come when I lock myself out of my car haha

1.5 HOURS?!!?!? IT ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES TO GET INTO PATS!!! ARE THEY MAKING LOVE TO MY EXHAUST WHEN ITS IN THERE?!?!!? I can't believe 1.5 hours to program a key. That is completely ridiculous

The cheaper ones do in fact have the chip in it. If it says it works for an Evo or uses the word "transponder", it most likely has the chip in it.

I personally purchased the cheaper key and successfully programmed to my car. I did have two keys so I was able to program the new key myself.

I am glad someone could post and verify that a locksmith can program a key if you only have one. This would be my preference before going to the dealer.

The 1.5 hours of labor must be a book rate because there is no way they are spending an hour when it took me 5 minutes to program two spare keys in my garage.

The programming is not magic and I am sure all that is needed is the device that can communicate with the chips. I am guessing that it implements RF technology along the lines of RFID.
