If you can't hear it then it probably isn't the motor. It's actually very easy to check without having to go through the pains this thread talks about. If you push up gently on the headliner around the center you can feel the location of the motor. If you hear grinding you can easily push up on the motor to re-engage it temporarily. To "fix it" simply pull the weather stripping that holds the headliner to the roof out on the portion that protects the rear long side of it and wedge something in the gap. Make sure you wear long sleeves because the fiberglass will start to get painful but at this point you can easily reach the motor and using a simple 10mm socket and wrench you can get new bolts in there. I've done this twice without removing anything but that one side of the weather stripping. Makes it easy

If you can't hear grinding yes there is a fuse and if that isn't it...dead motor I'd guess.

anyone have any more details on what fuse it is? all i know is that the previous owner said the manual tells you what kind of fuse but doesn't say where the fuse is. they also told me that the diagram is wrong on what ever fuse panel they looked at? o_O

so i actually went and looked at the owners manual and the diagram doesn't look anything like the fuse box that is under the steering wheel (and slightly to the left). anyone have any insights on this?

pulling to seal away from the moonroof to gain access to the motor works perfectly! Total fix time was like 15mins - 2 of the 3 screws fell out... I was really stressed when I read that I was going to need to remove the entire headliner to evaluate this issue. Thanks for the tip!

i had the same problem when i bought mine, just take the liner off and youll probably find the bolts in the liner somewhere, just lock tight them and put everything back, took me and a friend a little over an hour to do everything so it doesnt take that long to do it and reinitializing it takes a little playing with but there is a thread on here of how to do it

yeah you can, im going to tell you now the biggest pain in the *** is the seat belt bolts everything else is easy. and i didnt have to take the headliner out completely i just pulled it down past the rear view mirror and shoved it forward up on the dash. the motor will be right about the middle seat in the back of the car

This happened in my Lancer. Of course it happened when I was out and it started pouring. Forced the sunroof closed and broke it. But yeh. Two bolts. Loc-tite them in. There is also a fuse to check I'm sure.

as far as taking headliner out. I did mine from the back. Take off the C pillar covers. pull the headliner down slightly and you can see the motor. No need to take it completely out.
