Sunroof won't work
Sunroof won't work
So I just picked up my 03 Evo VIII today and they sunroof doesn't work. Is there a fuse for the sunroof? I want to check the simple things before I have to rip off the headliner and check the motor and stuff. What could it be?
I don't know if this helps but I'm pretty sure it wasn't making any noise at all like when i first tried, but I took the fuse out, or what I thought was the fuse to the sunroof and now it is making a sound but still won't work.
When it happened to me on my lancer, it stopped half way and rattled like crazy. So i put it back closed, took the fuse out and have not messed with it since. I was told by people here and on another forum, heres one of the answers i got from someone.
"Easy fix, buddy. Pull the headliner down in the rear, over the rear seat. You don't have to remove it from the car, just lower it in the rear enough, to get at the motor. You'll see the 10mm bolts that hold the sunroof motor to the gear, have come loose. Slowly tighten the bolts, and you'll be back in business. Be careful that the teeth on the motor, and the teeth on the rails line up.
99% of the time when we saw a Lancer with a sunroof inop, the bolts had just come loose."
This was basically the answer I got from everyone else. I hope this is the problem with mine.

had the same problem myself. also you have to make sure that you get the motor in time with the position of the sunroof i.e. open or closed. easiest way is to tighten the bolts and use the sunroof switch to close the sunroof fully. then loosen the bolts so that the gear on the motor moves freely and press the sunroof button to close. allow the motor to stop on its own and the tighten the bolts back up. also you might think about using some loctite on the bolts so that you dont have the issue again. its not as hard as it sounds, but it is a PITA. oh, and you can fold the headliner just a little to get to it. the crease will pop back out because of the foam under the headliner fabric.

If you want you can check the fuse, its behind the place where you would put your spare change compartment on your lower left. Also check motor like everyone else says too.
dont fold the headliner in half, just at the edges (i.e. at the pillars) so that you can move the headliner out of the way to make the sunroof motor more accessable (i actually removed mine from the car). the bolts are on the edges of the motor.
its not that hard, pop the C pillar covers off, pop the 3 tabs along the roofline in the back off, pop the b pillar covers off after taking the seat belts loose (17mm), and that *should* give you enough room to access it in a somewhat akward way.
I just did that to mine this weekend after it got stuck all the way open, what I did after I got the headliner out was drop the motor entirely, hit the back function on the switch so that it thought the sunroof was all the way open, re-attached the motor, and its all good.
fwiw on my 03, the sunroof motor was held on with 3 philips screws. one had fallen out and another was loose. it gave no warning, went all the way back and then that was it.

my sunroof doesn't move either. what im thinking though is that if the sunroof motor is loose, i should still be able to hear it spinning right? i get no sound when i press the button.. im thinking fuse? or could it still be the motor?
