No Biased Opinion Please
No Biased Opinion Please
I know many of my thread has been close/locked and been asked to search, but i want everyones opinion on this topic.
Lets be serious, How reliable is an Evo? I mean if you constantly just stay out of
boost and drive without abusing the car(although the car was built to be abused-apparently). How far have you gone without problems, when i say problems i mean, turbo leak, engine dying, sudden codes appearing for no reason(although a code means there is a reason for it to be there in the first place) etc etc
Please dont be biased just cause you own an Evo.
Note to Admin/Mod: I searched already, I tired my best to put in every little thing to find my results (break down, car problems. But none answered my question fuly.)

You will probably get the "you take care of it, it will take care of you" response. But let me tell you from my actual experience. I bought my Evo brand spankin new in 03, drove it almost everyday for the past six years, occasional urges to feel its power (especially around the curves) and when I say occasional, I mean about once a week, probably about 3-4 curves. My car is BPU-ed without a tune.
Things I have fixed:
1) On my 3rd clutch
2) Transfer case rebuilt because I dumped my newly broken in 4-puck clutch...my urges took over common sense
3) Shorted out my fuse because of the do-it-yourself antifouler trick to bypass ses light due to no cat (O2 sensor wire was rubbing against my chassis)
4) rear differential was slightly leaking, warranty was almost up and this was the only thing I could find wrong with my car so I put it in some repair shop to get it fixed under warranty
5) My sunroof recently stopped working, I took my whole roof panel off to see two missing bolts on the sunroof motor. Found the bolts, screwed it back on, sunroof working like a champ now!
So all in all, in my honest opinion, MY Evo has been more than reliable to me. It has NEVER let me down. I said it before and I'll say it again, I have proved many people wrong about Mitusbishis being unreliable. I myself thought Mitsubishi was unreliable too...I still think so, with the exception of the Evo.

Not to sound like an *** but if your planning to "stay out of boost" why bother? If you really are worried about repair bills your probably looking at the wrong type of car in general. I was a little worried about reliability before I bought mine but I have been meticulous with my car(s) so I practice preventative maintenace. If you cant afford a new clutch to pop up, than its a good idea to save up until you can afford an Evo and maintain (repair) and simply enjoy the car.
