Front crashbeam becomes useless on lowered evos?
All I can say is wow! Why even chance it? I'll play devil's advocate for a second. Let's say that I do remove the front crash bar and then I get into a front end collision. I end up doing more damage than I would have done if my front crash bar was there. Was it worth it? Only you can answer that question but to me it's a no-brainer.
It's a 5mph crash beam rated for low MPH collisions so that you do not have to pay as much if you bump into someone at a stop light or something like that. It's not like you are removing your frame. Any high MPH collision is still going to damage your car beyond repair, crash beam or not. It is a common misconception that the beam is rated for high mph collisions.
You are still safer to keep it on, but you are also still safer to keep your car in your garage if you don't want to damage it

it all depends where you get hit and what you hit, i took mine outa my car i just take out on weekends and going to the track for weight reasons, but if your driving the car everyday your chances for an accident go up, leave it in then.
In a slow speed frontal impact I can see its function, but am wondering of its effectiveness doing anything after that rated "5mph"?
It is mostly driven to and from the track, but like I said it also has been driven around town on occasion. In the last 6 months I have put 2800 miles on it. It would be nice to remove that excess weight, unfortunately I will agree that the cons outweigh the pros of removing it-- even for a track car.. I can still hit a wall, or hit another car at the track too I guess. But then again, dont the jdm version of our cars not even have them?

These cars still had their crash bar on....

But, the internet has confused a lot of people on that topic!

Think about it guys. Obviously you aren't going to tell your insurance company that you removed your crash beam, but would the adjuster notice when he's looking at your mangled heap of a car? I HIGHLY doubt it. To a relatively untrained eye, it all looks the same. I'm willing to bet a lot of insurance companies would be nervous if they knew how much some people modified their Evos, crash beam or not. It's just one of those things that you COULD get in trouble for if the right people knew, but 9 times out of 10 you won't.
Nationwide once turned up their nose at the fact that my Civic hatchback had an "Integra engine." Luckily the insurance guy is a family friend and just instructed me to keep that kind of information to myself, because believe it or not, they can deny you coverage for things like that.
in response to the insurance debate, i just got rear ended last month (car still in the shop
) but i had the JDM rear and no crash beam (made obvious by the metal brackets that hold it on sticking out through the rear bumper. honestly, i would say take it off. it doesn't really have a good purpose as long as you don't back in to someone going like 2mph. like stated before they only help in low speed crashes, anything over like 5 it's not going to do much. So since they are heavy and pretty useless i would say take them off, but be careful in parking lots

Has anyone considered that this so called "Crash Beam" is more than just that.........It may serve as a vital structural piece that enhances the uni-body rigidity.
I would think that removing it would allow the front end to act as "Wet Noodle".........Peace

Then again, that's also what a Cusco front power brace is for.
