A/C fan nut came off at 16K miles; damaged the A/C condensor (pics)
I've been hearing an intermittent grinding noise for the past week on my car, coming from the front. It didn't do it much, but when it did it was very disconcerting. It finally happened in the garage and I was able to trace it to the A/C fan. Pulled the nose and FMIC off this morning and found the culprit:

The nut on the fan blade simply backed off and then the fan was free to wreak havoc on the A/C condensor.
Has this happened to anyone else? My car is long out of warranty, but it has only 16K miles. Kind of disappointing for this to happen, but I didn't use my A/C much anyway. Guess it's time for the A/C delete mod.

Your lucky it didnt cause more damage but its not that expensive to fix like other problems we run into with our cars. I would look in the part out section and see if anyone has what you are looking for. There are many guys that have helped me out in the past. Hope you get her fixed soon.
Dam, I think this is exactly what my situation is too. I've been hearing slight rattling noises whenever this fan comes on so I'm guessing that its the nut thats loose and about to come off. I will find out tomorrow when I pull off the intercooler and take a look. Maybe time for a slimfan if my current fan is screwd?

If you want to check it without taking it all apart, I'd poke the blade with something long and thin (when the car is off obviously). On mine, it was obvious that the blades were really loose.
I was thinking maybe its a huge rock or something lodged at the bottom but that doesn't seem likely either.
