the engine immobilizer consists of a special key with a magnetic or radio transmitter embedded in the fob, and a receiver mounted in the ring that surrounds the keyhole in the ignition.. basically if the signal received by the receiver in the keyhole does not match the signal programmed in the ecu, the car will not start. basically this means that your car cant be hotwired, or have its ignition lock broken and forced to turn. it also means that copying your key is not enough, you need to get a specially coded key from your dealer, so dont lose those little metal tags that came with the key with a wierd number on them.. that refers to the code on the key transmitter.

im glad that this is available on the key and making just a copy of it wont do .
