Fun With the G-Tech Meter

I've been curious to see how my bone-stock Evo would measure with me behind the wheel. Test conditions:

Temp: 45 degrees
Humidity: 45%
Sea Level

I have only run the car on 92 octane gas but found a station where I ran the tests that sold 94. After filling my tank with 94 octane, I disconnected the ECU for 20 minutes to reset it.

With my friend in the passenger seat my best 0-60 run was 5.35 seconds. I only did three runs since I didn't want to completely smoke my clutch. We went on to take a few horse power runs and those averaged 223hp. Just for comparison, my friend's Stock Miata ran a best 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds and 87hp under the same conditions.

Does anybody know how my cars hp numbers might compare to some 4-wheel dyno numbers? I was under the impression that the G-Tech numbers were accurate but read lower because it takes into account air drag. If this is the case then apparently my car is fairly strong.

I have a Buschur muffler delete pipe arriving tomorrow and plan to heve my ECY DynoFlashed in the next few days. With these baseline numbers I'm eager to see if they improve with the new parts.

Cheers, Mike

What's your elevation? Also you shouldn't have disconnected the ECU to run tests, you would have been better off just letting the thing advance the ignition a bit more. Give it a couple of days then test it again, I bet you get higher numbers.

Those are about average for stock, although the 0-60 is a bit slower than normal I'd say. There's a whole big thread about the gtech so do yourself a search.

i have no faith in those electronic meters.

I use the HKS type-1 and it says my 0-60 is sub 5 seconds, stock 1/4 @ 12.9 when in fact i ran @ the track my best time of 13.8

G-tech and HKS are also two different companies

I had the old G-tech when I had my Eclipse GST and I found it to be pretty darn accurate, track vs. meter.

I just did several drag strip runs with a G-tech Pro on a friends car. I compared each run with the time slip. On all 3 runs the ET was within .05 second and .3 mph. The 1/8th mile times/ETs were within the same range. The 60' times were within .05 seconds of the time slip.

I don't know about you, but that is an acceptable margin of error to me for an in car performance meter.
