Honestly, I'd just do it myself. Not difficult at all, plus you save some money.

a shop I went to said they usually charge 800-1000 to install an electric exhaust cut out. The mechanic said it was alot of work and that it will take 2 days if not more time to do.

There is NO way it'll take more than, at the MOST, 1 hour if a shop was doing it.

Edit: Depending if they have to fab anything up or not.

20 bucks at a local muffler shop for the cutout install- ran the wires myself and bolted the physical e-cutout myself.

I decided to get the job done at the place by the mechanic. He installed a dhm electric cutout for me and wired the switch. I droped the car at 730 in the morning. While at work we go back and forth through text messages and he tells me that it is going to take 2 days if not more to install the electric exhaust cut out and and shortend the tip of my muffler . At 3 in the afternoon he tells me he just finished after working on it all day. I ask the boss how much i owe him for the job he says 600. Then i say why so much. He says he was only charging me 75 dollars an hour. He then says i usually charge 800-1000 for this job. he thens says that he had a customer that he charged 1000 and he was happy with the job.

Wow, that does sound like a long time! Did they have to take the downpipe down? Did you get it coated or wrapped? Did you supply all the hardware, like flanges, gaskets, Cat?

The owner said he had to take down the downpipe, it already had wrap from me doing it previously. No coating. At the time my car had no undertray on it. What they supplied me with, was 2 gaskets and and some orange sealant and a cat that he said he was not charging me for that he had laying around. I asked the owner to make sure that the downpipe on my car be sealed, I pretty sure it not sealed both the owner and mechanic looked confused when i asked them. And the muffler be attached to the rear end of the car. Also the tip of the exhaust is not fully welded to the muffler and has holes and cracks in it. they didnt do that either. Also while the car was on lift we found that one of my wires was previously cut from my o2 sensor from one of the owners employess in the past and the owner said, that is why i have had the check engine light on forever. It's things like the above that **** me off. im paying the owner a bunch of money for the job and then i have to do part of the work checking things and finding them uncompleted.
