So your work allows you to work on your vehicle there or do you actually own the shop?

1800sq ft attached garage here, heated floor (radiant tubes in the concrete) epoxy coated and enough tools to tear into quite a bit of trouble! Do your basic auto maintaining, fabrication, detailing, and actually use it to host family parties as well, since it is heated.

Off topic: In ohio a couple groups talked about doing the 'rent-a-shop' idea, but no insurance company would touch it last I knew, and I would imagine with where there bottom lines are now.. they do not want to venture out to anything more risky.

There was a rent-a-shop in Minnesota many years ago where they had tools and everything you could borrow but it wasn't around for long. Great idea in theory.

Agreed... another idea that will get shot down due to a 'sue-happy' nation.

Thanks... spent 1.5-2 years in desiging phase.. then built it in about 6-8 months.. just finished it last October (2008).. a heated floor is just amazing... to walk out in your socks.. when it is 10 degrees outside.. and not even the floor is cold... perfect!! I like my modding (or at this moment de-modding) environment!

Looks top notch man Question...why the heated floor are you planning on doing that killer shop and not have a lift? Or is the floor for when you are on your back or sitting? Just wondering....very nice indeed.

Radiant heat is one of the most efficient heat sources (short of geothermal)... This allows for a dead quiet heat source (namely quite a few TONS of concrete) heated to 70+ degrees, to then radiate through the entire garage, remember heat rises, so if the FLOOR is heated, and heat rises, this is a very even heat.. not 'forced air' heat that heats air and not objects, nor a ceiling mounted unit... I have maybe $3500 in the entire setup, and the mechanics are all in the basement, just the thermostat to control it is in the garage.

I had been through plenty of electric heat options.. gas heat options, and torpedo heaters as well.. this setup made the most efficient sense for what we were trying to accomplish. I may do a surface lift in there someday, but not a bolted in style, not at the risk of punturing a pex water line in the concrete. Thanks.

Where are you finding a jack that lifts more than 23"?
