How much should a timing belt replacement cost?
I'm not making that call. If it's recommended that you change all these things @ 60k, and you do it, then why not change all the parts that were recommended as well? Those 2 parts cost around $72 (before shipping). If you had to have them installed at a later date, before the next timing belt job, you'd be paying for the same labor cost again.
Don't forget these:
-change the front main seal along with timing belt job
-change the rear main seal & TOB along with a clutch job, maybe even the axle seals on the tranny too
-change the cam seals along with a cam install

Just hit 60k last night. A little worried since I'm waiting on the water pump (delivery taking a while due to xmas rush). I bought the kit from map with gates timing belt and a balance shaft eliminator kit.
I would suggest getting the pullies and also the serp. belt tensioner. On a side note, not knocking anyones product. I would use the AMS race delete kit and avoid the stub ones. I have seen several cause problems. In one case same guy same engine it caused failures 2 times in a row. Both failures were caught before engine damage.
we use genuine oem mitsu parts sourced through our dealer,
the entire package for the 60 K (pump, gasket, idlers, pulleys, tensioners, t belt, balance shaft belt etc) is about 585.00.
we charge about 650 ish in labor for the installation... typically if someone wants to do cams/headstuds we will recommend this at the same time, since we would have to time up the motor anyway.... and if we are pulling the head for headstuds, we take the cams out first... so there is no labor to swap them
if you go to a cam like an S2, you will pay a little extra for the valve spring installation (usually about 150 bucks)

I paid $550 at the dealership for Timing belt, and the other lil belt in there, I think its the tensioner belt or balance shaft belt. Plus I had the accessory belt done at the same time also included in this price. I felt like it was a pretty good deal considering it was the dealership.
i was just looking over the service manual and noticed a note stating that at the 60k mark: For California, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, this maintenance is recommended but not required to maintain the emissions warranty.
At 105k: This maintenance is not required if previously replaced.
So what does this mean for the rest of us that arent in these states? Is it required or not at 60k...i know its recommended but why is there a note saying to do it at 105k?
i know this isnt an answer to the OP'er but i believe it falls into the same lines of saving money and having more time to prepare for an expense of a required maintenance action.
