Question about exhaust ticket

Hey guys I recently got pulled over for no front license plate and the cop was being an ******* and supposedly said my exhaust was too loud. This is while he was in his camaro cop car which is ****ing louder than mine but whatever. I went to court and showed them my car with the stock exhaust on it but they told me that I could have just put it on after the cop stopped me and sent me to another court downtown which im still waiting on the date.

I dont have the stock exhaust anymore so Im not sure what to do. Although Im pretty sure my exhaust isnt over the limit with the cat on I dont want to take any chances on a 140 dollar ticket.

Any advice? Thanks.

BTW my exhaust is a turboxs fulll exhaust.

dude, look on the private 1-9 evo market forums and see if you can pick up a stock exhaust for cheap, i know people are pretty much giving them away.

I got the same ticket for the same exhaust, when i went to court to fight it i lost, The judge said if the cop could have heard the exhaust from where he was at, then it was simply to loud, And i ended up having to pay twice the ticket price cause of court fines, The judges around here are isiots though

Did they have proof? Like when you get a speeding ticket I always ask for the Radar Proof, not alleged. I would assume that you would win in court if the cop did not have a DB reading. Just saying though. Good luck.

If you have a friend with an Evo or one in the local area just ask to borrow their stock exhaust for the court date and see how that plays out (ask some of the NTEC guys on here, they might be able to point you in the right direction, or know something about that specific citation). Yes, if the cop doesn't have a definitive decibel reading on the exhaust then they can't prove anything and its his word against yours, and the burden of proof is on him, however they could transfer you and push it through the system and your court costs would be the price of the ticket. So basically you can win, but you might have to pay more to win than the ticket itself costs. Your choice. It also depends on if the judge is a nice guy (forgiving) or not.

jaredh, I would edit your previous comment and take out the sentence that said you street raced. Mods might dock you some points for that. Not trying to be a jerk, just don't want you to get busted.

Good luck with the court date

Edit: Added NTEC suggestion

any sort of aftermarket exhaust will be too loud for cops, cat or no cat. like everyone else said, try picking up a stock one to slap on for the day when you have court

Beg, barrow, or steal a stock downpipe and cat. Those with the TurboXS catback should be OK. A few years back Turbo Mag tested exhausts and yours came in on the quiet side.
If you do manage to get a full stock exhaust, make them prove it wasn't on your car at the time. You are innocent until proven guilty. Can that officer really tell the difference between the stock tip and the TurboXS tip? Did he get down on his hands and knees and take a good look? No? Then from how far away? Pictures?
Then what is the sound limit in TX? Again, how far away was he? Did he have a decible meter? Are his ears calibrated?
Make them prove the case.
Search in here too. This state started it all;

Thanks guys for the advice.

Im thinking of just paying off the ticket. Im not sure if the court costs and searching for a stock exhaust are worth it and who knows if I will even win for sure.

just pay the ticket. by the time you find a stock one and waste time changing it out, is it really worth only 140 bucks? come on now

its not a moving violation so theres no points or anything that come with it. just pay it

I just went to the dealership and got proof it was stock. One thing if your coo with tha dealership, just ask them to hook you up with a legal work document saying your stuff is legit. That's what I did. I didn't have to even talk to the judge or anything.

good luck though man ...see your from El Paso tx, Im in NM and cops are just as dumb...

Your court sucks
If u had the car with stock exhaust usually the cop will come out and see that it's a stock exhaust, and they drop the ticket

however if you LIED and said that you never had an aftermarket exhaust then you're an idiot as it's your word against a officers.

just get a shop to sign a sheet saying repair work was done to fix the exhaust and dont drive your evo to the court. problem solved.
