Help with my Du Luck install *Pics included

Santa answered my wishes and brought me a replica Du Luck carbon fiber lip. Sadly he didn't leave me an instructions. Does anyone have any advice on how to mount this lip specifically, how did you drill the tabs to mount the lip. The discussion thread didn't mention anything about drilling and I was unaware that It was needed. What is the best way to secure this lip?

best advice...

remove the bumper and then remove the stock lip

you can reuse the hardware from the stock lip for the do luck lip

put the lip on the ground like it is in the pictures and fit the bumper into it...should be almost a perfect fit without any hardware or anything

now you'll see the holes for the bumper against the undrilled areas on the lip

drill through those holes into the lip

start in the center and work your way to each side

that's the simplest way to do it

unscrew your OEM lip and line it up and use the same screws to mount the new lip...small pilot holes would be smart...

Definitely remove the front bumper. It really isnt that hard although some of the clips on the undertray will try to fight you. With it off the car it will be a lot easier to line things up for drilling. I bet it will look better in the end.

That sounds like a great plan of attack. Thanks for the advice. I'll post pics when I finish.

Thanks again everyone for the quick feedback.

i just installed this lip last month on my car. You'll have to dry fit it first to see which tabs need minor filing so the lip will sit flush with the bumper. Then get an electric screw driver and use the self-tapping screw to secure it. I suggest you get someone to help you hold this.

Im worried about cracking using self-tapping screws. Did the self-tapping screws go right in?

Should I tap a hole first, or screw directly in?

I drilled a little pilot hole when installing my JDP Do-Luck lip. You screw into the fiberglass portion and not the carbon fiber so cracking shouldnt be as much an issue but I still drilled the holes to be safe. One thing to note is when you reinstall the bumper it will be more rigid than before. That makes bolting it up to the fenders harder. So take it easy or you will strip out the clips that the screw goes into on either side and have to replace those like I did. Overall an easy install.

I bought the ralliart replica for my EVO 9. I recommend using the self tapping screws. I was worried as well, but they go in super easy with an electric/power drill.

remove the bumper, and i thought the oem tabs/screws should line up with the aftermarket lip

it is also much easier with two people. one person to hold the lip tight to the bumper and one to drill the pilot holes and put in the screws. also be careful not to tighten the screws down too tight because the fiberglass can strip out easily, but as long as you drill pilot holes cracking should not be an issue. i used my craftsman electric drill set on the lower torque setting to pervent stripping.

buy a new...sharp drill bit. dont apply a ton of pressure, let the bit do all the work and pull its way through. this is to prevent cracks.
