I bought mine without test drive. I knew I wanted this car and no other. Also, I agree with the no test drive policy, if you're a potential buyer, you wouldn't want anybody test driving your car.

I bought with out test drive but I also instructed them I wanted it just preped and delivered. I got it with 9 miles and loved the car from the second I sat in it. You really dont need to drive this car to know its the bomb.

I think it depends on if the dealer KNOWS your going to buy it or not. I called them on the phone and said i will be dropping buy with a 9k deposit and would buy the car at msrp. I got no hassle and i didnt even ask to test drive it but later in the night the dealer asked me if i wanted to test drive it. After that drive i couldnt sleep until the next day when i picked up my new love uhhh i mean car.

My local dealer was decent to me. I got to test drive the car first.
In fact, we took it across the street to where my dad works, and me and 2 of his coworkers all test drove it.
I bought a different car, because of color, and because they had put $2000 worth of "bling" crap on that one.

Unfortunately, by being nice, I think the dealer ended up screwing itself.
That poor car is still there. It has over 100 mi now so nobody will touch it. It has that " riden hard and put away wet" look about it.
And they still want MSRP.

On the windshield they have written "Last One!!" - and I believe them.
It will probably be the last one that ever sells ....

I was able to test drive the car. I simply showed them my bank account and that I could afford many evos at once and they let me test drive any evo in any color for as long as I needed.

Moral of the story is money talks. Show them your serious about buying and they will let you drive it.

Put up or shut up

The Evo does not cost as much as a Ferrari or Viper, but the rule is the same: either buy it or don't buy it. Read enough magazines and they will provide the whole story. I knew what I was getting and I did not need a test drive.

I didn't even care about test driving. I had a general idea of how it would feel (had 2 other awd turbo'd cars) and I fell in love with the evo instantly from buying it. My evo had 1000 miles on it from the manager breaking it in so it was ready to be sold. It was probably stupid of me to buy it with the miles on it, but whatever. My old car before it (2001 civic) needed to be put to sleep asap

I drove my NSX up there and test drives sure are easy to get with that. When I drove my Accord they did not even talk to me lol. They ordered my car and I wrote them a check.

I think it really depends on the looks of the person. When I went to officially look at mine, I dressed like I do for work and they took me quite seriously. I could have gone in in a t-shirt and jeans (the way I normally dress) and they probably wouldn't have thought I made the money that I do. I have casually car shopped in normal clothes and they don't even come over to me and ask if they can help me. I assume it is because I am still young in their eyes (I am 28). I figured that this young kid stereo type would be over by now. I show up in nice clothes and they are all over me.

Dude, TEST DRIVE IT. You cannot KNOW you want a car unless you test drive it. Could be the seating position is wrong for your body type, or you don;t like the light feel of the steering... whatever, but you don't know until you drive it. I had little interest in the Evo, was leaning towards a wrx, sti, S4 or used 996, but it was the test drive that SOLD me on the car. I bought it immediately, BECAUSE of the test drive. It was not the speed. It was the seats, comfort, roominess, driving position and that sweet steering ratio. You know its fast, if you test drive don;t abuse it. Just "feel it". As for the guys who said you can't just walk in and test drive a BMW or Porsche... HMMM... I have done both. Depends on how good the dealer is. And I went in in in my dickies shorts, vans and a ben davis T-shirt, tatoos, etc. Not about how you look, but how you present yourself, how serious you are, and yeah, maybe they need to run a credit check first or check your bank account... they need to know you are serious... give them the info they need to understand that. But once they know you are serious, then they should give you a legitimate test drive. If you have proven that you are serious and have the means to be their next customer, and they still won't give you a test drive, then **** 'em. Fly out to cali, and I'll let you drive mine. No problem, as long as you have insurance and a brain.
