The Cost to Own an Evo
Spend what you can. If the bare minimum (insurance, gas, repairs) are more than you can afford, then an Evo is probably not the car for you. Fact is, most Evo owners spend far more than is 'necessary' on their cars. But thats part of the fun.
While an Evo may not be the most afffordable sports car, it IS one of the best. Besides if you think we have it bad, you should do a cost comparison with other cars that put up anywhere near the same level of performance.
There are cheaper ways to go fasts. Motorcycles, Civics, etc.. But I have owned enough cars to know that the Evo is a bargain. Plus it is practicle enough to do almost anything you need it to. Whether its getting groceries with the kids, or straight up embarasing someone who really spent too much on their sports car.

i suggest u learn how to change u oil plugs fluids yourself do the light maintenance ur self and reduce the cost. but yes the more aggressive u go hp wise more u spend and more the chances of blowing a engine up.
It's not worse than any other car really. 5k between oil changes is pretty reasonable. 20+ mpg isn't great for commuting, but it's not bad either. Brake pads wear pretty good unless you're running around the racetrack. I like soft tires, so I might spend more than someone who runs all-seasons, but that's up to the individual. Every car should have gearbox oils changed, coolant flushed, brake fluid flushed, etc. It's really a pretty good bargain when you consider the performance you get for the money. Mine's been super-reliable...I haven't had to pay for anything other than routine maintenance.
My EVO is not a DD.......I understand the cost to own

My evo is my DD, and although my drive to work less than 5 miles and i don't drive much other than that, the cost of ownership had been alot lower than the calculations you entered... also i dont consider mods like a shep transfer case cost of ownership, that just makes ownership better (or more fun) which ever way you look at it
I wont calculate how much ive spend on GAS! for past hmm 5 years? 40 miles a day to work and back, plus mods, insurance, car payment! because i will kick myself in the nuts! and that hurts. What really suck? car payments on top of that, but 10 more months and the Junky will be mine! cant wait for that day, huge monly savings right there!
