The Cost to Own an Evo

I ran some interesting calculations and I thought I would share. Of all the my Evo VIII spending I have accounted for, which is pretty accurate thanks to Mint.com, this is what it has cost to own my car from the day I bought it until today. I've owned it since August 10, 2008.

Maintenance and Minor Upgrade Costs ($13,735.63):
$0.622988 per mile
$9,722.542059 per year
$188.159315 per week
$26.619438 per day
$1.109143 per hour

Maintenance + Cost of Car ($19,700):
$1.573278 per mile
$24,553.0742 per year
$475.173014 per week
$67.224089 per day
$2.801004 per hour

(Maintenance + Cost of Car) - Current Value of Car (~$16,000):
$0.847588 per mile
$13,227.7346 per year
$255.994932 per week
$36.216337 per day
$1.509014 per hour

Major purchases:
Fuel - $3151
Stage II Shep Transfer case - $2500
2 Sets of Tires - $1200

I would say this is a pretty typical dollar amount for someone who owns an Evo as their daily driver. What do you guys think, do you spend more or less?

Just out of curiosity, what is the deal about mint.com. I noticed that turbotax is heavily advertising for them. Is it free to use?

Yes its free to use, check it out sometime. It helps me realize how much I spend on my car

It's not 10-13k a year just for maintenance, as this number includes insurance, tolls, gas, and minor modifications such as boost/wideband, ported exhaust manifold, silicone couplers, fuel pump, clutch line, bov, head studs, alignments, valve cover gasket, axle boot, ect ect...

It adds up really fast over a year and a half.

Over the past 22048 miles I used ~1050 gallons of gas and averaged about 21 mpg, including some E85 in there.

Honestly, these cars are expensive to own. I've owned a C5 & spent less on it's up-keep. The person who said "You have to pay to play", really wasn't kidding.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I've spent ~2k on the car just within the past couple months. Not very fun on the wallet but oh well, it's worth the smile it puts on my face when I drive it.
