Question about VIN #

I just got done looking at a EVO 9 at a dealership today, two problems arose. the VIN # on the hood and front bumper are different than the VIN on teh rest of the car and the vin on the trunk, rear bumper is also different.

Car: 9032
Hood/Bumper: 1069
Trunk/Rear Bumper: 9184

Those where the last 4..

Im thinking the car was in a wreck and fixed ?

Either wrecked or could it be one model made to look like another. Maybe an VIII with IX bumpers?

run the vins though car fax and see. getting a one month access to carfax should be the first thing you do anyhow if you are looking to buy.

if you are looking to buy a used car and haven't ponied up for a carfax report dont be surprised if things arent as the dealer told you.

Get a carfax from the dealer, if they say they have not done one yet or anything like that then don't buy because they do a carfax on every vehicle before they purchase from an auction or elsewhere.

If the carfax is clean then maybe the previous owner may have been involved in an accident and did the work themself with used oem parts.

My best guess is, if the carfax comes back clean then perhaps the evo was previously modified. Maybe a carbon fiber hood, different front bumper, carbon fiber trunk, and a jdm rear bump (just a few options). Then when the car was for sale, the owner parted out those parts and bought used oem parts. Parting out Evos is very common in order to make back some money which is not returnable through a modified car.

The car could also be an Evo 8, not an Evo 9, but rather with Evo 9 body parts. Some things to tell the difference between 8s and 9s..
Look at the engine..the valve cover should said Mivec on it for Evo 9s.
The headlight and tail light housing for Evo 9s in painted black, the Evo 8s have altezza style tail light.
The rear trunk wing..the Evo 8s have carbon fiber vertical pillars, the 9s are painted.
What year does it come back as..Evo 8s are 2003-2005. Evo 9s are 2006.

There are numerous other things to look for that people can add to this list.

Could be multiple things...
1) It's not a IX, rather a VIII
2) Car was de-modified with parts from places from eBay or forum classifieds such as EvoM.
3) Wrecked.
4) Salvaged History..

Just get the Carfax!

the original vin comes back clean, even with dealer inspections. The other eh, not so sure about..

Both driver and passenger side fendor match, so thats why im not sure if it was an accident, normally those would be ****ed up right away...

I can understand the trunk, rear bumper... he could have had a JDM Rear bumper.. as for the front bumper, im not 100% sure... He also has EVO 8 wheels on it, suspension is obvious but other then that nothing...

other then that the car was clean.. 9800 miles. Just those vins on the bumper didnt match up

The interior was all evo 9, iirc the 7th digit of a vin is the manufacturing year which was a 6, and the engine cover said mivec turbo
