Not a real dilemma, but a question. I have an 03 Evo VIII in Rally Red. I've wanted to switch the "Altezza" rice-lights out for awhile. I had planned on putting in the JDM MR lights with the black housing and amber (http://www.hopupracing.com/jdmevomrta03.html).

However, the other day I came across a picture of a rally red Evo 8 or 9 with Evo VII tails (http://www.hopupracing.com/jdmmiev7tali.html). The ones that are 90% red. They looked pretty darn impressive.

I just wanted to get a vote or consensus on how people think each style looks on rally red. Maybe some pictures if you all have some good shots.

I have run into this because both tails cost about the same, but if I decide to do the JDM 8 housings I will probably do the JDM 8 headlight housings later on to match. But if I do the VII housings, I will probably leave the stock headlight housings.

Obviously one will save me about $800-1000 from not buying a headlight housing. I was wondering what everyone thinks...

There some threads on here where people used there craftmenlike skill to turn the "ricey" 8 tells into replica 7's. Can be done and will look just as good. Goodluck!

Thanks guys, I've seen the Evodave work and his website as well as some other people posting about how to do it. Right now I'm not quite there yet, I'm trying to make a decision.

What is everyone's opinion on the different taillights on a Rally Red Evo? I want to know what looks good to everyone on my color car.

 

my personal opinion is that the VII tails on a RR is just too much red. I have seen some on here that have made it work very very good with some other "supporting" aesthetics, such as CF parts galore, the JDM headlamps, wheels etc...it all depends in my book. If youre pretty much all stock exterior speaking, I dont think the VII tails look all that good, and would opt for one of the black housings.

 

i agree with ohevo18 its to much red. On a black evo its dam sexy tho lol

 

For a Rally Red evo w/o the JDM rear bumper i'd go w/ the EVO VII JDM tails. There is a DIY, but you can shoot EvoDave a PM.

 

RR looks good with both...but i like the evo VII tails on the RR more...

 

what do you guys think of the bluebat overlays?




for $30 it isn't too bad

i had some of his products on my sentra and they weren't too bad

 

they're definitely decent and a good money saver mod, just a little dark though...

I think youre thinking about this too hard. Taillight choice all depends on the other things you do to your car. Either housings can look good on RR the same as any color evo. Theres no law. I wish I had both Id switch when I got bored.

Even if you get MR tails you still dont have to spend $1000 on headlights when you can do them yourself.

But I think I'm going with 7 tails. I did some research/scouring in the rally red picture thread (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...re-thread.html) and found some examples.

The more I look the more I got turned on to the 7 tails and away from the JDM ones for the 8. I don't ever plan on doing a 9 rear diffuser, blah blah blah. It's a USDM, I want it to look that way without the ugly tails, hahahaha

Just get the cheap ebay version and save some money, you will still have the same look you are going for.
