Umm MY EVO SOUNDS LIKE A SUBI!

Today was a really nice day so i decided to fix everything up on the car. Meaning i took the bumper off to put my new lip on and also fix my headlight. I also gave her a really good bath.

So i go to take her out later. I started her up like usuall but this time she sounded real deep almost like a subi.. So i'm like ohh ok, just drive it off. Well when i go to hit boost ~3000 The car breaks up real bad and sounds like a machine gun type noise if i try to get on it.

I ran the CEL codes and the first time P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire... The second time P0300 - Random Misifre Code.. So i am completly lost right now i pulled her back inside and am trying to diagnose the problems... I am about to pull the spark plugs now.

Please if you have any tips/suggestions i would love to hear right now..

Ohh and i pretty much completly stock with a TBE.

It sounds like your not running on all four cylinders. Im guessing your issue is in the cylinder where your plug looked a little funky. Try replacing all the plugs and see where that gets you.

sounds like the cylinder gave up, do a compression test or better a leak down test on that cylinder

What kind of stuff was dripping off the spark plug? It is very possible that you got water in there if the boot wasn't on tight, and you hosed down the engine bay. That might be causing it to break up.

The other side of that coin is that the plug may be coated in oil. Change the plugs, see what happens... if the same thing happens again (meaning, you get wet stuff on the plug), check compression on that cylinder.

Well decided to swap the plugs i put cylinder 2 spark plug in cylinder 1 and vice versa.

Start Up: Car sounded Great.
First Drive: Nice and smooth like usual
Adding a little more gas: I can build up boost! lol
Half way open throttle: Breaks up so i am hoping that it is just the spark plug. I will run all the tests in the am and report back. The car runs great now until i try to get on it a little.

Ok im double postin but oweell.

So i am in the process of doing a compression test (couldn't sleep)

1st Cyl - 170~
2nd Cyl - 165~
3rd Cyl - 170~
4th Cyl - 170~

So next step is to buy new plugs. I am hoping this is the issue. I'm pretty sure the compression test passed lol. Thank god nothing is wrong in that department.

Also sounds like when you washed the car water got in the spark plug hole/cylinder I would check that as well.

Yeah your right, im thinking that might have been a possibility. But after switching the plugs and going on my test drive no more liquid down in the hole.

I had the same problem not to long ago and it turned out being the fuel pump. I changed alot of parts chasing down this problem. I did a fuel pressure test and it did not show to low of a reading but the volume is were the factory pump sucks! my motor was running way lean and shooting random misfire, would hesitate under boost, pings, detonation, falling on its face. I over heated my turbo running lean and had to get it rebuilt, heated the o2 censor to the point of no return and could have possibly burnt a valve, melted a piston or much much worse, ordered a walbro 255lph fuel pump part number VPN-342, from summit racing shipped to my door in two days for $115. Took 20 minutes to install with basic tools.
