smoke afther test drive
ok i went to go test drive an evo 9 today and the ride was good. As we came back smoke came by the exhaust manifold area. the car has and upgrade turbo. so is that normal?
nope you should not be smelling oil. LOL might want to avoid that car and keep looking. last thing you need is a ton of oiling issues and having to replace motor and turbo

Is this supposed to say that the car DOES or DOES NOT have a turbo upgrade, the way it's worded makes no sense
Stock turbo has oil and water lines, so do upgraded ones. Either way it is likely a problem. The only time you should see what looks like smoke is if water splashes on the exhaust parts and you get that "instant steam".

smoke by the turbo... its possible that the seals are shot (aka new turbo needed) and its actually leaking oil drip by drip and its burning off. personally... dont buy someones headache... sounds that way from this. also what turbo is it
if you are set on that car and serious about it then why not take it to a shop u trust if you are not confident in diagnosing it? Aftermarket or not there should not be smoke coming from there... you need to find out what exactly is smoking
I've done quite a few turbo upgrades/replacement for my car and friends and its normal to me if you used some sort of cleaning solution or anti seize or what not. I use anti-seize for the threads and I use pb blaster if necessary, after installation, it does smoke from around the exhaust area but will clear up after some time, like others said just burning off whatevers there. But I'd be concern if it keeps smoking.
Try checking the lines and make sure everthing is on there tight, coolant/oil lines check all of it. By the way you didn't reuse the copper gaskets for the lines did you? I consider those one time use only. Idk if this applys to your situation, just thought that the car you test drove might've had a recent turbo job that you weren't aware of or the turbo is on its way out maybe.

did you ask the dealership why it was smoking? did they not care? bring it to a local shop first, second come back with a list of issues, and third, if the car is still under warranty have them fix any covered issues before you think about purchasing. if it has upgraded parts tell them you won't buy it unless they put it back to stock.
also if it had a upgraded turbo and the dealership replaced it before putting it up for sale, then they may have used some sort of sealant on the 02 housing where it meats turbo.

i drove the car for like 10 min. didnt even beat on it or nothing came back the car started to smoke for like 5 min then it went away. the car is a private seller and has a slowboy racing gt35. i didnt see any oil drip on the floor or around the engine and i dont think there was any engine cleaner that was use.
