How long did it take you to find your evo?
^ um, you can setup a appt at the sellers local friendly mitsubishi dealership. have an independant inspection done, on YOUR dime, then have the results made available only to you.
I bought a car in Indianapolis a few years back this way (2g eclipse GST) and didnt have any problems with it and knew the exact status of the warranty. Showed up at my local dealership where they (of course) said "the warranty is void" but out comes the mitsubishi paperwork and voila! warranty work FTW!

-before buying an evo
If you can have the local mitsubishi dealer take a look at the car do so.. also see if the vin has been branded because of mods.
dont buy from a lot unless its a super good deal.
buy something that has been maintained (tranny, active center, rear fluid every 15-20,000 miles)oil every 3k, tires, brakes.
buy one as stock as possible. i bought mine 100% stock and i am happy i did. no rigged up stuff. everything as factory made it.

A 30 minute drive... seriously, I drove to another town originally looking for an SUV for my ex, and ended up trading my RSX in on an evo the Mitsu dealer had on the lot used. Less than 18000 miles, I paid a bit much for it, but it already had a ton of parts that I was going to put on it anyway, I knew the guy that owned it previously and it had some nice Volks on it so I pulled the trigger
i found mine while shopping for an sti. at the time (2006) they wanted 40K for a brand new and 36k for a used sti. i opened a diablo dealer and found a 2005 eb evo w/ 8100 miles on it from a lexus dealership. valentines day sale for 26k. i think they used it for errands and such as the salesman was just getting back with his lunch. lol. i now have 70,000 miles on her and have no intentions of letting her go. oh, i waited 2 weeks to see if someone else was gonna buy it, but no one was buying an evo at a lexus dealer. except me. lololololol. good luck.
I looked at these cars seriously for over two years to find one with what I wanted, and a price I could afford. After I purchased it, I found that the guy who had modded it wasn't as sharp as he seemed and left out some serous steps. He ended up putting a lot of money into something and having no idea what he was doing. Anyway, I was able to trade the AEM ECU for some decent parts, get rid of the crappy blitz BOV and add a 255 fuel pump with some 1000cc injectors. All of this plus a great tune by a local guy referred to me on this site, and I am thrilled to death. The car runs great, E85 is saving me .80 a gallon now, and driving it is just as great as I always thought it would be.
