Paint Codes and all that jazz...

Quick question for the group... sounds like a stupid one, but I don't know much about paint codes...

Trying to get a 2003 Lancer trunk to go wingless on my TB 2003 Evo 8. The trunk lid comes in "black". Through a little bit of google searching...

2003 lancers came in Labrador Black... my TB 2003 Evo 8 is obviously Tarmac Black. Given the fact that the two colors share the same paint code (see below), shouldn't they match? i.e. in a perfect situation, shouldn't I be able to pop on this new trunk lid without painting it?

Tarmac Black X42 MZ313375
Labrador Black X42 MZ313375

Like i said, probably an obvious one... but, i don't know anything about paint codes really.

Yes in a perfect situation they will match. You might get luck and it will match pretty well. Although the same code, each batch of paint painted on the cars in the factory will have different shade and amount of flake. The average joe will not notice the difference so it really depends on how picky you are.
