Rebuilding a 6 speed

I was wondering if anyone has ever had their 6 speed rebuilt? Ive been looking around for the past year and TRE seems to be the only place that will do it. On their website they advertise shot peening of the gears but advise to not use a clutch that will hold more than 400 lb ft of tourqe...

get a built 5 speed and be done with it
once you start making over 450wtq the 6 speed is going to be a time bomb

Join the rest of us in the inquest into finding a solution for the 6 speed. I couldn't wait, so I had to do the 5 swap, but I would still really like to see a viable solution for the 6 speed released. Shep is on it, but no signs of it being released in the near future.

He can rebuild the internals with all stock parts, but it will just go bad again over time. A long term solution is needed... read that thread.

I already had two 6 speeds blow 4th gear on me...the reason I still have a 6 speeed is because I got a smoking deal on both of them...I paid 300 bucks for it and I had to pull it out of my friends car...but that wasnt a problem since Ive done the clutch in evos about 30 times lol. And once in an evo 10. If shep really come out with the gear set Im all over it. The reason I got an MR is because I never thought I would go this far with the build. I keep getting these rediculous deals on parts to the point where people get jealous lol. I picked up a set of Tein flexes for 50$...got an FP green for my stock turbo and some spare parts. A comp clutch for doing a clutch a a buddies evo...the list goes on lol

I really hope shep does release the gear set because Im making about 450 or close to that right now and will be picking up an FP black in the near future. Im careful with the 6 speed thats in it now but I know its only a matter of time as it has around 70k miles on it already. I heard rumors of TRE coming out with one last october but apparently that never happened.

There is no real advantage to having the 6th gear other than 200 rpms lower at 60 mph. If you're drag or road racing you have to shift more, and with the torque evos are capable of making wider gearing is more of an advantage than a disadvantage.

I understand that but I like the way the 6 speed shifts a lot better. Ive driven many different cars including 5 speed evos and i have friends with evos that drove my car and also like the way the 6 speed feels. I wonder if the FQ 400 has the same 6 speed as a USDM MR?. I mean they even offered it with a warranty...

This always sparks an argument. I had to get my 6sp rebuilt. I could not get TRE to call me back. So after talking to Shep it was goingto them. I ran into some issue and called Ivey. He was a huge help so I pulled my trans and he rebuilt it for me. I dropped it off ao aves myself some shipping cost.

I am excited to see if shep comes out with a solution. There ate other shops that rebuild the 6sp. I think dogbox does them as well. Thing is I don't think any of them like doing the 6sp. I kept mine for the same reason as I like the 6sp. My evo is my daily so I prefer a 6sp.

Personally waiting on the 6spd upgrade. Should be a cheaper solution than purchasing a 5spd and getting it upgraded.

stock for stock the MR is faster on the track. So why would it be any different?

I don't know about you but 60 mph is painful for me on the highway. The difference is greater at 80-90.
