I for one hope the Evo DOESN'T win any of those awards. Some people will buy the car ONLY because it was on C&D's 10 Best, or won Car of the Year. The only people that should be driving these cars are enthusiats. Hell, if Mitsubishi stopped selling the Evo in the US, I would take it as a good thing. The less 70 year old's driving around in Evo's because it won "Automobile of the Year", the better.
You do realize that those are meaningless awards, right?
They're all catered towards the manufacturer that puts together the best marketing package incorporating their magazine. None have any value regarding the car's merits.

I wouldn't count on the Evo being on any of the lists.. These raitings are heavily influenced by the Manufacturers "donations" to the magazines... Considering Mistu's financial situation I don't see them spending money on buying an award like some other companies...

There were numerous articles discussing the actual process of selecting these bogus "Car of the Year" awards years ago. These magazines are far too reliant on the dollars spent by these major manufacturers and cater towards the big spenders.
If you want an honest review, pick up a Consumer Reports, do some research on reliability, and go for a test drive.

I dont' care what has been written, the editorial and advertising sides of the magazine have little to no contact with each other on a daily basis, yet alone during the car "of the year" awards. How do I know this, because I work for one of the magazines that you think bases its award on some type of buyout. I can tell you that for two weeks during our "of the year" awards we are up early (3 or 4 a.m.) and out until late (usually midnight) doing photography, testing, and vehicle evaluations with the complete list of contenders which could number as high as thirty. We then spend upwards of eight hours deliberating, debating and sometimes fighting over which vehicle deseves the award. And do you know what? None of the advertising staff is present, or invited, or has any clue where we are during this process.
look through Automobile mag (or R&T, Motortrend, etc) and see how many Mitsubishi adverts there are compared to the US' big 3 and the big boys from Japan & Germany... I hardly think MMC can be accused of spending lots on advertising: how long did the Evo TV spots run? 2 weeks?
Evo TV spots?
Never saw any, but would like to.
Keep imagining an Evo ad with some sweet Mitsu-style tune in the background--though I doubt they'd make one--but still it is a car they should flaunt to bring in business.
I just read the UK "Car" magazine "best performance car in the world"--they picked the FQ300 as #2, behind the Turbo VX220 (turbo Lotus Elise knock-off). Pretty good the Evo beat the Ferrari 360, Noble, Porch, and other worthy contenders!
