What are the possibilities of....

With the end of the near drawing near, this could only mean one thing............................................. .................................................

Well besides the holidays, giving, receiving and snowy conditions here in New England, it means it is time for the Car Awards!

I was trying to guage whether the Evo community felt that the car will make any of the annual kudos lists.

I for one feel it is a shoe-in for the Car and Driver 10 Best List, and may even be a contender for Motor Trend: COTY and Automobile: Car of the Year. The later two would be a long shot, but it has received the highest praise and honor among the leading periodicals. Maybe someone here even has insider information

My favorite quote of the year is (coming from the 9/1/03 Autoweek)
"We wouldn't be suggesting a class-action lawsuit (for not having the Evo I-VII) except that this car is SO good, we can only assume earlier iterations were equally impressive".

Well let's hear it!

Yeah, it sohould win them all, but will probably get none.

Big deal--because I and WE both know how great this car really IS !!

is a small player in a big game--the ****in retro-**** FORD GT40 will probably win some stupid awards--cause it is such a great retro crap Ford re-do that no one can afford! Hot behind the heels of another retro flop--the piece-of-****, ready-for-the-scrap-heap-already thunderbird

Oh yeah, I have a ford problem . . .

Already made what I consider to be the best car magazine in the world's Performance Car of the Year list: CAR magazine out of the UK. The Evo is a magnificent car that will never get it's due in the USA, for several reasons. One of the most prominant being the lack of understanding of the car's heritage and utility by the few people that will buy them in this country. It still never ceases to amaze me that people buy this fantastic road car and sink all of their effort into making it a drag racing vehicle. Perplexing and boring, IMHO.

^^^ wrd... The GT-40 is probably one of the best performance cars... period... STILL. The fact that people are saying the GT improves on it is hella mind-boggling.

car & driver 10 best & automobile all-star I think
car of the year usually goes to something far more pedestrian then a rocket like the evo (though the RX7 did win in 1993!).

Agreed, I'll bow in shame at messing with the freakin 40, but it is just another car in the long line of those "who-the-****-can-really-even-afford-this kinda cars. Sure we can dream about them and say they are great and all; but get real, how many people can really own a car over $250,000!!

The best thing Ford has done in 20 years is buy Jaguar, Astin Martin, and Volvo (etc). Without them they would be dead!! Ford has not done **** or made any good cars since I was born!! All they can do is revive old legends to save themselves (which is pretty sad). After the mustang (soon to come revival), I think they will be outta luck and will have to actually make something NEW!! Then we'll see what they can really do. Unless thay want to revive the Dodge Dart -- AGAIN!!

Again, appologies; but I have too much Ford angst, and I get sick at the site of those ugly cars daily. And the thought of the revival GT winning some awards for me is what started it all.

the Ford GT is a 2005 model - so I won't compete for the awards this year...

and for all the praises lavished upon the Evo by the American automotive press, it had better win some awards.

I wouldn't count on the Evo being on any of the lists.. These raitings are heavily influenced by the Manufacturers "donations" to the magazines... Considering Mistu's financial situation I don't see them spending money on buying an award like some other companies...

Man you dont know what your talking about. No new cars eh? how bout the focus (which granted isnt brand new but is still fairly new) which was the highest selling car in the world in 2002 and how bout the new 427? How can you not love the idea of a family sedan with a V10. And dont even begin to call the current mustangs crap. Dont mean to hijack the thread or anything but I cant stand when people just assume that all fords are crap just becuz there american made.

If you like CAR, you should check out EVO. They even named their mag after the Evo. It is also a UK-produced mag - 10x better than anything in the US as far as writing quality, photos, paper quality, etc. I have collected CAR all the way back to Dec '98 and EVO almost as long...
