Loud spool issues

On my way to work this morning, I was taking off from a stop sign (while still staying in vacuum) and out of nowhere the turbo started spooling very loudly. I usually dont hear it until i get past 1-2 psi on the boost gauge, but it was nowhere near this loud. The wideband was reading normally and the car seemed to run fine also. It did this for a few miles, I could hear the turbo very clearly and very loudly without even getting into boost. I did spool it up once to about 10 psi and it felt fine and the wideband was normal again, but it was still much louder than normal. About a mile or two later, everything went back to normal. I pulled into a parking lot and popped the hood and everything was tightened down, nothing loose, air filter was on there snug and everything. Any ideas?

weird. I mean if you were actually in vacuum that you wouldn't hear any "spool." I dont think anyway.

The only thing that I could think of that would make it louder is if your open element filter or airbox (im assuming filter because you mentioned you had one) came loose or off. Or maybe even your intake tube but that would make your car run like real crap id imagine as your MAF would be all off. Check again to make sure that all clamps involving the intake are tight.

You could do a boost leak test too I suppose and see if there are any other problems. Its a good idea anyway.

good luck

Ethan

Yea the intake tube and filter were on there nice and tight. Along with the i/c tubing also. Still on stock piping, maybe one of the couplers is developing a leak... Boost leak test is on the way, just hope I can find my old tester from my old dsm, dont feel like makin a new one.

Did you warm up the car? That happens to me when I don't warm up the car and it usually stops a couple miles down the road.

check the downpipe flanges also there could possibly be an exhaust leak but it would most likely lead to a louder exhuast sound also, but it could be possible with an after market exhaust. I suppose you wouldnt notice the louder exhaust sound as much with an after market exhaust?? idk worth a try

Yea the car was fully warmed up. Oil temp was around 180 for a couple miles before this happened. The exhaust should all be tight also, I was under the car last night trying to hunt down whatever was rattling and made sure the entire exhaust was tightened down. The exhaust tone also did not change
