I've got a turbo timer in mine so it stays in neutral when parked anyhow. I have mine disconnected on the advice of the guy who helped me build the first motor in my Evo. It's more of a convenience thing since it doesn't affect anything else.

I don't see how starting in neutral without the clutch pushed in woudl put less strain on the bearings. I would think with the clutch pushed in, it would be less strain as you are not turning the tranny input shaft thus less rotating mass.

that whole thing was mainly advice for the 7 bolt DSM guys cause like stated before, the crank walk issue was an over played problem in those cars. it is not necessary to do for an evo because of the redesigned bearings

if you disconnect the switch dont you lose your launch rev-limiter?

Not really, I have a remote start in mine and it is hooked up to multiple things. It wont start if the e brake is not up and to engage it when you get out you just have to pull up the e brake, take it out of gear hit the remote start button, get out of the car (it stays running that way you know its not in gear) and hit the lock button. It then locks the car arms the alarm and you can remote start next time. Works good to because you can use that as a turbo timer if you want. If anyone wants to get into your car while its running and hits and of the pedals the car cuts off. And the remote on mine has a very long range as its a 2 way.

So, I can tell by the various answers who drove, or did not drive DSMs in the past. The reason
why they did this and alot of supra owners was to reduce the chance of developing crankwalk. If you dont think that evos walk, you better do some more searching. Any car can
walk, its just alittle insurance against it.
