Question Heat Shield Blanket for FP stock appearing turbos (FP Red)

Anyone know if there is a heat shield blanket cover made that fits a FP Red turbo?

Also, has anyone tried to use a DEI like the one shown here with a FP Green, Red, or Black? This one shown here is made to fit a T3 or T4 turbo housing.

DEI Heat Shield Blanket

I've seen a couple companies that make custom heat shield turbo blankets, but the cost is quite high. I've already contacted FP directly and they do not manufacture a turbo blanket for the FP stock appearing turbo lineup (Green, Red, Black).

Thanks,

J. CHURCH

Decent idea however, with us having the hood vent I think it may cause some negative effects running a blanket if it gets wet.

That topic has been debated quite a bit when it comes to heat wrapping manifolds. Debating the possible long-term negative effects of installing turbo heat shield blankets in our engine bays would make an interesting topic for another thread. This may be the very reason no one's making blankets for Evo FP turbos.

However, I'm just interested if anyone makes these or how a DEI blanket would fit on an FP Red.

Thanks,

J. CHURCH

I believe Buschur used one of these on the Red in Project White. But it might have been a different one, maybe hell chime in.

Cool... Maybe D.B. will chime in. Please let me know if you find out anymore on the Project White. See you're getting ready to run a BR 2.3L. You'll love the extra torque, promise!

Thanks,

J. Church

Nothing but love, when the time comes Ill probably go to a 2.5 or something anyways.

I think hes more wondering about the adverse affects that trapping the heat in the turbo would have on the turbos life expectancy, to see if its worth wrapping or coating.

you seen my coated parts right?? I guess we will find out but JMS has had parts coated by carlos and been holding up great and the evos i rode in that were coated been that way for like 2 years + so i would say nothing but positve for coating i dont know about putting the bag over it deal. why 2.5 or 2.6 i have heard noting but negative of those since they are basically brian crowler parts just get a std2.4 or LR2.4 but if mine makes me happy which i know it will ill be done i want to get rims and repaint my car more. once this motor build is over im done worrying about the motor section for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG WHILE

Aw I wish I could. If I was single I would sell my bike and do it. Problem is I need my roof redone. Same price as new motor. Proper thing to do is sell the bike and get roof done.

I should have got it coated in the first place, but I didn't order that option for my FP Red. Now I am considering what options are available. One of the options being a heat shield blanket.

Since this is my DD, I'm not really considering taking the downtime to get everything disassembled and shipped off to be coated.

Also, now that you brought it up, I've seen a lot of tubular exhaust manifolds with flaking ceramic coating that looks like hell. Are there any ceramic coatings that are 99% sure not to flake? Anyone swear by a certain type of coating available? There is also the long standing debate on if wrapping tubular manifolds cause severe corrosion or not. I just think wrapping looks dirty after a short period of time.

Might be a good option to wait for some downtime... coat the turbo, exhaust mani, and O2 housing at the same time???

I've see some very nice custom heat shields... like shown here ATPWRAP

I heard a custom turbo/manifold like this is about $900, but I haven't checked with ATP yet.

Yeah I didn't have a lot of info on people that have been running a coating or blanket so I wasn't sure myself of the affects if any.

As for the 2.5 or 2.6 I talked about it a little with Oliver at SBR I wasn't aware it was Brian Cower parts but I figured if it maintained a rod angle ratio or the 2.3 then It would be like having a 2.3 with the extra displacement from the .3 liters.

I know this block wont last forever and when the time comes I will more then likely go to a LR2.4 with a HTA35 or something.
