just third ? I would try adjusting the clutch pedal travel so that it allows for an earlier engagement and disengagement when pushing the clutch pedal. This might fix the grinding problem. Heres how:

By referring to the picture in the link, you want to adjust it so that the push rod goes in the deepest.

If you adjust the pedal and it still happens a grind while shifting into the gear usually means the syncro is on its way out. It's also possible to have a bent shift fork but you would have to have the trans taken apart more then likely.

I have the 6sp and mine does the same. Its not a grind but you feel the gears when I shift. IDK i have tried everything mentioned and the result is the same. And My trans was rebuilt.

Everybody always says bent shift fork but can our forks even really bend? They are cast iron and thick as hell.

I broke mine in half...They may be strong, but still have a weak spot.

OP: Try to flush the transmission fluid and see what it looks like. Make sure to use stock fluids (in my opinion).

Welcome to the lovely world of Evo's.

Both of mine have done this and never got worse. It was an intermitent problem. It's a very small, hardly noticable grind. If it's REALLY bad grind, the a synchro is bad.

Don't let anyone tell you this is normal. The transmission should never feel like its grinding into gear or have an audible sound. Try changing the transmission fluid. I recommend Amsoil 75W-90.

In the case the transmission is fine, its also possible the gear is partially being locked out at higher rpm's because some aftermarket clutches can tend to stick to the flywheel at higher rpm causing syncro wear/gear grind/gear lock out. If you have an aftermarket clutch this may be the case, but this is usually caused at very high rpm.

Probably is a syncro, but trying a transmission oil change is better then pulling the trans out...

sounds like you need to replace your 2-3 synchro.
