Personally, I would not go through the trouble.... taxes arn't cool, and I have an MR and I don't really think that it is all that much more special... just my $0.02, the choice is ultimately up to you.

I was under the impression that I would only have to pay the taxes on the difference between the trade in and the price of the car.

Go for the trade. You'll may never be happy otherwise.

I think when stock, the MR has quite a bit over the standard model with the BBS wheels, Bilstein shocks, HIDS, Aluminum roof. If you mod and replace those items, then it isn't that much better. I've got the MR and its pretty stock, so I like the 6 speed, Bilsteins, BBS wheels and don't plan on swapping any of that out.

just a tip, KBB values mean nothing. banks, and dealers use NADA to determine the value of a car.

I can't believe no one has anything to say about this. Not sure if his car is stock, but it sounds like a relatively unmolested specimen. Turning it into a 500whp plus car is going to kill the value of the car. If it were me I'd hang onto such a low mileage 9 for as long as possible and pick up a cheap 03 Evo or something.

Get a IX SE and paint it WW. Problem solved

As soon as I pay off my car, that's my next mod. Then I'll have a IX SE in WW

I would just keep ur car now man. U can always get the HIDs and make it look like a MR. Plus if ur going with the Fp red and want to make big power the 6 speeds wont handle that to well. IMO i would just keep ur car now

no point in getting the MR. just upgrade your suspension, rims, carbon roof, buy SE interior and it will be cheaper and better in long run.

Trading the car to who? I thought you were looking at private sellers to pick one up?
That would be news to me, I didn't know that... is that a state by state (country by country) basis though?

What happens when you trade your vehicle in and buy something less... does the state pay you? haha

Don't do it dude! I have a IX MR SE and love it minus the 6speed. I have broke the 6speed twice then finally upgraded to the 5speed. If you plan to make decent power I would junk the idea and keep the GSR. The MRs are not that "cool"... I paid more in the beginning for my car, then I paid even more to get a GSR 5 speed. I'll about 4500 more out of pocket than if I had just got a GSR... My .02 cents but you can do what you would like. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Yes my car is a completely unmolested wicked white ix. Having two evos is currently not an option right now. If I was to get another car it would be a nice daily to replace this POS ford taurus.

You definitely have a point and that's what I'm starting to think. My problem is that because my car is currently stock right now and the gsr wheels look so ****ty compared to the MR bbs I'm feeling jealous... And of course people will so then just buy some mr bbs, but having stock HIDs is a lot less trouble than having to go through all the trouble of wiring them and still not having the electric leveling..

This is also true... but then I read so many posts about the whole 6-speed being weak is blown way out of proportion..

After looking at the pictures it looks like the MR was modded. The only evidence I see however is a few aftermarket gauges.

cars were made to be driven. the IX is a much better platform to start off with than the 8. it wouldn't make any sense to downgrade, then upgrade the downgrade. i say do it big with the IX, or IX MR if you trade, then drive it until the wheels fall off
