what to do first

should i build my motor first or should i go bigger turbo... i asked many people and they give me different answers. also what turbo you think is best for like 500whp and still daily driving. i was looking at the fp red and the fp black. or should i just do like an ams kit.

I say upgrade your turbo and enjoy that great motor Mitsu already put in there for you. If it goes, then build your block and your already to go with a big turbo already on your car.

FP red or black, you cant really go wrong. Just depends on your end goals.

depends on how much you want to spend first.... I personally would build the motor and make as much HP on the stock turbo just to say i did. I have no data to support this is the better decision but there seems to be a little more bragging rights if you do it on a stock turbo.

it doesn't make any sense to me to strain the motor until it blows, THEN build it. I would personally build the motor so that it won't blow, then add the bigger turbo.

I am trying to accomplish that very thing. I just bought the FP red and had already built the tranny. Motor will be next. I would rather have fun with the turbo while waiting on the build.

I see it the other way. The stock motor is capable of handling a ton of power so you might as well push it to its limits before you shell out a bunch of cash on a built motor. You never know, you might hit your HP goals while still on the stock motor.

thanks, i was sort of leaning towards getting the black and building my motor. the black is like 200dollars more, but i can get more power out of it... has anyone here had a black and got great numbers on a stock block

Seems safer IMO to just keep on with what you have for a little while longer if you have all the supporting mods for the bigger turbo already installed. If you get the turbo and shortly after installing it something happens to the engine from components not being strong enough to withstand the power you are shooting for, then it's just going to break the bank and break it hard since all your money just went to getting the turbo. So I personally would save up for both because that would really be the only way to get the most out of what you want.

Unless you put a rod thru it and there goes your core...

we have quite a few customers on the fp red doing 430's awhp and 35r's doing 500awhp on the stock short block, stock head with 93 octane. We're not seeing huge gains over the red with the black on 93 octane, seems the hotside is the limiting factor and it spools slightly later. However, if you're going to run better fuel (race gas, e85) then the black would be my preference.

Its about $1800 for the new core and crank when you shoot the rod thru the block. then you ll prolly need a new oil cooler, oil pump, some say new water pump and so on. You ll have wasted so much money my bet is you ll want to drop a new stock motor in it and sell it. Trust me it sucks

I wouldnt say blow the motor before you build it, but at least run it on that motor until you can build it.
