Yet another problem with my evo8 after a rebuild.. lf advice.!

so after a long wait, my car finaly comes out the shop.....

evo8

2.3l
35r
1000cc
255walbro
272/272 hks cams
koyo rad ......

Anyway, first day a wire caught shortage on the cam sensor wire and car ran on 3 cylinders for about half a mile. Figure it out, fix it and continue to drive around... next day i go start the car, and after turning it on, put it into first, 3 seconds later it shuts off, little smokes comes out from under my hood and wont start again.. take the car to the mechanic and apparently my engine wiring harness fryed!

suggestions? Try and fix it? Get a whole new enging wire harness?
anyone know where i can get this? im guessing dealer would be my best bet?

any advice appreciated

dj

I'd check the FS section. Even though you cant post, you can check the partout threads and PM the person.

I think the dealer harness is much more expensive compared to used.

I'd just browse the "Part-out" section. There's totaled Evo's all over the place. I'm sure you can source one reasonably cheaper than a brand new one from the dealer.

Its not really a hard job its just time consuming. You basically will have to just trace every part of the harness to disconnect every connector and ground. It could end up being a little bit of a pain cause it runs into the firewall and may run under the intake.

ill keep you guys updated how things are going, now i gotta go order some parts.
thanks again

Your mechanic should be fixing this stuff. That isn't something that "all of a sudden fails", maybe he left something off/disconnected or routed something too close to something hot?

Honestly i have no clue when it comes to car's electrical and harness setup. He built my motor and everything motor wise is great. The electrical part obviously not. He claims he hasn't messed with it at all so its my word vs his.

He's a good mechanic with a good eye for detail, always makes sure everything's good. Only thing that's been wrong with my car is the temp gauge would go up when i'd turn the heater fan's on, but it was weird because my temp gauge would go up when my car wasnt even ON, just the keys turned and fan's on.... I hope i can somehow figure out how exactly this happened, but no clue how im gonna do that.. sigh

If he does the work, i dont mind paying for the harness, just sucks i have to go through this...

its broken!!
