Transfer Case Problem

I read a lot of threads about people having transfer case problems and whine, but I wanted to know how often does it occur.

If you dont abuse the car all the time and just daily drive it, can this be prevented?

treat the car nicely and it will last you, dont launch at every corner, do more gear pulls than launches and it will last you, change your fluid often.

that.

do proper maintenance and take care of the car. If you race around and launch everywhere, you will wear the life for the tcase.

Every 10-15K, depending on driving style. I changed mine at 15K with all Amsoil products and man what a difference. Smooth as silk. I did the complete package:

5: SS0-QT Qts 0W-30
3: MTG-QT Manual Trans Fluid
2: SVG-QT 75W-90 for TC and Diff

Worth every penny

I was told that if you get the T-case shimmed it will greatly lower the possibility of it cracking
I think that shep can do this but IDK for sure

changing the fluid is pretty key, if you never bring your car to the track but don't change the fluid regularly you can have problems, or if you let the fluid get too low is one. This could happen if you have a bad gasket, there's one guy on here that had a bad gasket at the driveshaft, he wasn't leaking the point where you could see it dripping on the driveway but he ended up ruining the bearing

When i bought my car (used) dealer said no issues ever with it, but took it in for oil change other day(different dealer) and they said the T/C had been replaced.... pretty pissed with original dealer, but anyway all i know is that you dont want that going out cause the dealer told me it cost them $6000 to replace it

Every 15k miles seems really extreme.

Do you guys change the transmission, tranfer c, and rear diff. every 15k

I do... all three components. Mitsubishi recommends 30,000 for normal use and 15,000 for excessive use. When I hit 32,000 miles on the odometer I changed mine for the first time and the car felt dramatically better afterwards. I never went that long again. I'm currently around 14K right now... the next opportunity I have the car on a lift... the fluids are getting changed again.

i sent mine to shep trans and mine cost around 1600 to get rebuilt and labor on a tcase would only cost around 300 to 400 if you didnt want to do it yourself
