Custom Evo VIII Solid Iphone mount

Hey guys,

I just finished a project I have been working on to solid mount my Iphone 3GS (soon to be Iphone4) to my Evo, so I can run dynolicious, CMSLapTimer, and others properly. I have not yet tested it, but will have results tonight. Let me know what you think.

I bet if you mass produce it you'll be loaded.

I bought one for $6 that fits in the cupholder verrrryyy tightly. No movement at all even at over 1G. Works great with Dynolicious. Hope it holds my new 4G as well. It has a suction cup to keep the phone in tight and the diameter is perfect especially with how deep our cupholder is. But that looks very creative as well. A cleaner design could be a very well selling product.

I have some extra material, so I have decided I am going to remake it in a one piece design and paint it black for a sleeker look. I just need to source a new phone holder piece. The current one holds the phone well, without movement, but I guess I'm just bored and want to make it nicer.

Kudos on the design! And I know it's a prototype but it needs some polish before it's a product

Possibly if someone is interested, but the radio/heater control trim piece has to be clearanced for it.

How accurate is this CMSLapTimer you speak of? I have DynoLicious but no one can hold my phone steady while I do a pull. This is a very good idea, and the placement look pretty spot on. Good job.

The CMSLapTimer, I guess it is fairly accurate for recording lap times, however they sell a wifi based GPS unit that increases accuracy to such a degree that it can be used for Rally. Cost is like $750 though. They also sell a slightly cheaper version that is not quite as accurate for like $500. The lap timer used with just the phone can get you lap times, but for accurate cornering speeds, braking points, etc, the Wifi unit is needed. The Wifi unit uses the Iphone as a display, but can also be used with Ipad and windows based pc's.

You will never get dynolicious to read accurately with someone holding the phone. It must be mounted securely so that it can pick up every movement of the car. There was a review of Dynolicious that proved it more accurate then the Gtech units, but again, its all about setup.
