Definitely a scary thing to happen, judging by how the wing came off, its almost as if it was creating just as much drag as down force, but then again, its impossible for a wing to exist that does not create some sort of drag.

I'm still trying to figure out what caused this because obviously this isn't a common occurrence. Was it just not mounted properly or something?

I'm pretty sure it was failure of the carbon fibre boot lid.

Should use a Kognition wing mounted to the frame next. Shameless plug.

EXACTLY MY POINT.

Here's one for sale: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2013618

Kognition always makes sick dry carbon stuff.

If you're talking about the STi, then the short answer is Element Tuning raised the wing, but the shape of the foil was no longer appropriate for it's roofline height. So the wind ripped it off.

Important lesson learned. Don't just slap a wing on there and expect it to work. If you're racing that is.

When the potential costs of wing failure are so high, especially when a car is set up for the additional downforce, I think you would want something that is foolproof.

Here's what COULD have happened. The fact that it didn't is probably a testament to Tarzan's massive skills.

Granted, this wing didn't fail where it was fastened to the trunk, but at the airfoils, but still. This shows how dangerous airfoil failure can be.
I agree with you 100%. Honestly I was never sure why the wing wasn't mounted to the frame. After all these years and countless amounts upgrades, I would assume that they'd realize few of the items have reached their maximum potential, one item being the mounted wing/trunk setup.
