Question for Tuning

My car has a pro tune and I was wondering is it suppose to run rich.

I put a sniffer and the gas analyzer read 300 ppm HC at idle fully warmed. No cat.

Is this normal or is it just wasting gas? Any input would help.

Who tuned it?

I'm not an expert on tuning but I'm pretty sure that after most Evos are tuned they run leaner than stock.

You may want to ask the tuner what it normally turns out to be after they tune their cars.

Who tuned it? What do you consider rich?

Brian GST Motorsports.

I would say anything over 80 ppm of HC would be rich.

Brian is a fairly respectable tuner, I think he knows what he is doing. But do you have a wideband to see the exact AFR it's running? What are your current mods?

Currently it has the walbro 255 fuel pump, tbe (cat less), cone air filter, injen intercooler (not tuned with).

Im not saying he did a bad job or anything because the car is fast and runs great. Its just that the exhaust fumes smells bad and I checked it with a smog machine. The readings for hydrocarbons was really high and I wanted to know is that normal for a tuned car.

BTW the car was tuned a while back if that makes any difference. Only new part after the tune is the intercooler if that makes any difference.

Have you considered using a cat? BTW, Brian is one of the best Evo tuners in the country. If you want to see how the car is running, get a wideband and log.

I agree with ^. The catless exhaust would be the smell you are getting and why the HC are higher than you expect.

running catless is not helping your cause...put a cat on it and have it retuned
