ETS I/C install almost a disaster
It was not powder coat. That would mean you powdered the inside before mandrel bending? This definitely came from INSIDE the pipes. The shard was very attached to the pipe. The top broke off when I felt it with my finger. The base that was still attached to the pipe had to be scraped off with screw driver. It took a hammer to chip it off clean. My best guess is mandrel bender removed a small amount of metal during each bend. That material was building on the bender and this pipe was the unlucky depositor of the material. Not really a big deal to me. Stuff happens. just very glad I caught it before it went into use. Very pleased with the quality of the kit otherwise. All is good.
We mandrel bend first then powder coat it. The rack that goes inside the piping to hold it in the oven has gobs and gobs of coating on it and does have a tendency to break off just like what you have in the picture above on the inside of the pipe. We have to use a screw driver to break it off most of the time because of how hard it cooks on. We are suppose to catch in the QC, but i'm glad you found it.
Thanks,
Michael

Suck it out...
I always run my shop vac down, into, or through every pipe and bend I can whenever I have the plumbing apart. It seems like good insurance against mysterious junk that somehow ends up in places it shouldn't be. I make sure the vac hose is real clean on the outside before I start.
