Yes..another "My Evo is making noises" thread.

It is =P

Ok, so I had let the car warm up to operating temp. Drove it about 100ft when I heard a loud grinding noise. Sounded like metal on metal. doesn't mean it was metal on metal... just my best description of the sound. At first I thought the plastic shield on the bottom front on the of the car was rubbing on the road, but everything was secure. I was cruising in 2nd or 3rd gear. wasn't driving fast at all. This did NOT happen while shifting. The car seems to run perfectly fine, as if there is not a thing wrong with it. I don't think there is, but I would still like to have this sound explained, if anyone knows what this could be.

Thanks

I was not driving in reverse. The sound only happend momentarily. I'm pretty sure if I call the dealer, they will tell me to bring it in. Then they will try to recreate the problem... which I am sure they will not be able to do, or they will just tell it's normal to get me to go away =P

Guess, I'll call them anyways...

Question Loud noise and vibrations

I have a similar issue.

Whenever I drive slowly and turn to a intersection, usually in 1st or 2nd.
I can hear a loud noise coming from the lower back of the car, it feel like some metal is rubbing pretty strongly. and when I am cornering very tight under 50 mph I can hear the same noise and a extra one coming from the engine. The noises only started after 550 miles on the car, I am a bit stressed out, When I went to the dealer they checked the car and told me everything was fine, but today I still have the noise?? anyone have a idea??

thanks,

A

My A4 made the same exact sound you described. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the ABS activating and it is normal. I don't know if it really was the ABS but the car never gave me problem regarding that sound. Plus, I've talked to other A4 owners and they hear the same thing. Hope this helps.

My sound occurred while driving straight... I made no changes in the way the car was being operated at that time. I was cruising in 2nd (I think) the sound came, then went away... me and my GF were like, wtf?

Maybe it was some random occurrence, like a stick on the road rubbed the plastic shielding on the bottom of the car as I drove over it. Who knows, the car hasn't done it since

I think that is just wishful thinking though, I'm fairly certain the sound was cause by the car...I ignore the 1000 other sounds the car makes, just assuming they are normal. This was very strange though.

I just picked up the car from the dealer
the noise is still there. it happen after driving for about 15-20 mins. whenever I turn left or right to a intersection, in 1st or 2nd , I can hear a loud noise coming from under the car toward the left rear side.
it's not always loud but when it get loud it's pretty scary(even with the stereo on!). Other then that I like my Evo, but this early "problem" is kind of taking my trust in the car away!.
I hoope they fix it. and the other 1000nd noises are fine I just crank the volume!

if it sounds like a metal on metal grinding noise coming from under your shifter it maybe be the front transfer case. this is the EXACT noise that my car is in the shop for. So far has replaced rear drive shaft, front tranfer case, and now they are basically replacing the whole tranny.

FYI...after they replaced the front transfer case, the noise went away but came back a day later.
