dumb but simple qustion

sorry for being dumb. but can you weld in a o2 bung for a wideband with the down pipe on the car?

Depends on how good the welder. I would personally do it off the car.

You *can, but you want the bung to face downward at least a little so the O2 sensor doesn't collect condensation. Ideally you want the O2 to have more than a 90 degree angle in the pipe.

I think as long as the bung is near the bottom of the downpipe it should be no problem. But you should have it at a 45 degree angle or so...

the above are all correct. proper WB02 should be mounted at a 10 o'clock or 2 oclock position. welding the bung on with the exhaust on the car is do-able, just least preferred.

with the downpipe on you are more likely to have small exhaust leaks because its very difficult to get to the top of the bung. it can be done though. if you do it make sure you disconnect to battery just to be safe

Save yourself the future headache of small leaks and take the 5 minutes now to remove the downpipe! That way you can make sure the area around the bung is sealed.
