Insurance company wants to repair my intercooler, not replace
Hi guys,
my car was backed into and my intercoler was bashed in a good bit. It went back into the radiator and bent the top of the core and it has some damage on the front. The insurance wants to have a radiator shop repair it instead of replacing it. Do you think I would have a case in getting then to replace it? The intercooler is part of the induction system so it's really important for it it to function corectly. I can see a radiatr being repaired but I dontknow about an intercooler. What do you guys think?

do not have them fix it. you're however entitled to the money the insurance believes it will cost and you have the right to spend the money on what ever you want. from strippers to buying a new fmic and radiator. you can also bring it to another shop that you 'know' and have them refuse to fix it

Depending on the damage, it can easily be fixed. But obviously depending on the damage you may not want it fixed, and if its really dented in then you have every right to say "Listen, i dont pay you all this money so when something happens you TOUCH it up, i want a NEW ONE". Stick to your words and you'll get it your way.
They always try to say something stupid and hope the person says, "umm, ok".
good luck
From my knowledge oil coolers are way higher on pressure then intercoolers. I build coolers, and we usually test them at 25psi(bar&plate or regular tube/fin), and oil coolers we test at 100psi.

Obviously refuse it, i deal with isurance all the time and they always want to put used parts and fix and repair but you dont have to go with their original estimate or word and can call them up and tell them you want replaced and an extra parts and put it *** a suplement. or tell the shop who ever is fixing it to do that.
That is really weird they arent just replacing the radiator, intercooler, and condensor (if you got a/c). You got a power steering fluid line running through there too, I would double check and make sure its not kinked up from the impact. Insurance adjusters probably wont care to note small things like that, but your car may not like a kinked p/s line. my .02
