Insurance company wants to repair my intercooler, not replace
Make them replace it.
I hit a deer and a few fins on the very bottom on my aftermarket intercooler were bent from the mesh attachment point to the front bumper and they are replacing it. You just need a receipt or some kind of invoice to show the price. Have the body shop also dispute it.

I dont know the whole story, but he said his car was backed into. I would think its the others persons insurance covering, not the OP. The price for a new oem might be the reason they are wanting to repair. So why not just quote an aftermarket one? Good chance to upgrade.
+1
I would have them say its unrepairable and price an OEM one. Then upgrade to a bigger one and keep the change!
