2011 Evolution X GSR - Windshield crack

Hey guys -

So I was on my way back to where I live in NJ, on RT-95 near Philadelphia, and a rock hit my car which created a nice quarter size crack on my windshield. This is the second time this has happened and almost in the same exact location on RT-95. Unbelievable.

The first time I had a crack on the windshield, I had Safelite AutoGlass repair it through my insurance; the damage wasn't as large as this time. The technician did a good job and I can barely notice there was ever any damage there. I'm having Satelite come and hopefully repair it once again.

I don't think the windshield will need to be replaced but my question is, if it needs to be, does anyone know for certain what the best route is to replacing the windshield? I got an instant quote on Safelite's site of $404.95 for replacing the windshield which includes labor; this seems a bit high and I'm not sure how their replacement windshields compare to Mitsubishi's OEM windshield.

I've looked at nearly all the posts on this site on what people have done with replacing the windshield, and there isn't an 100% absolute claim on whether the regular Lancer windshield is the same. Additionally, who knows if I'll keep this car forever, and I being a perfectionist, I would like to keep the car with OEM parts so that I could A. Get the best resale value as possible and B. To provide the next owner of this vehicle with a quality Evolution X.

With all the said, what would you guys do if I do in fact need to replace the windshield? My insurance company will cover the repair bill for SafeLite but if the windshield does need to be replaced, I have to pay a $500 deductible. Any information or helpful advice is welcomed. Thanks.

Evo glass is thinner (and more expensive) than Lancer glass. If you want OEM Mitsu glass, ask your dealer if they offer windshield replacement.

MSRP for the glass alone from the dealership is $590.58.

Do the GSR's have the rain sensor or not? Thanks for the reply. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks.

I just pay the extra ~$15/mo. for glass coverage.

The thicker glass made less noise/wind noise and less noise when rain hits on my car. Why not look up on safelights website if the lancers and Evos use different glass?
